I know that, I was just joshin'. I'll shoot most anything that doesn't shoot me first!

Load it up................I'll shoot it!

Looks as if it'll work, for sure. I really like the "pea-shooter" on the wall behind it !

Colorado CJ, Knife steel is ridiculously inexpensive.......................and you'll end up with a much more usable tool for your efforts. Just my opinion, but it really doesn't cost much to make a knife...............it's mostly your time that creates the sale price of a finished knife................might as well invest it wisely.

I have absolutely no respect for H&R drivers. Happened to me on night when I was living in my first garage apartment. My car had to be parked on the curb. Dude hit a parked car and disappeared. The "Sherlock Holmes" in my couldn't let it go. From the trash on the ground, I knew it was a blue vehicle and the left front headlight and signal light were crushed. Got in my wife's car and drove all over our area of town and finally found a vehicle with that description at 3:00am. Wrote down the license plate number, waited come out of the bar and followed the him home. Now I had his address. Called the police with all the information. They told me they couldn't do anything without someone having seen the actual accident. Got the guy's phone number the next day and called him. Told him I'd have him in jail if he didn't agree to have my car repaired. He had the gall to have an attorney call me to fight me over it. I told him all the evidence I had and the fact I'd seen his client coming out of a bar at 3:30am, drunk as a skunk and he'd better repair my car. (neighborhood bars stayed open late when "regulars" were on the stools back then) I got a call from the guy the next day and he told me to get a quote for the repair and call him back. I did, and he paid the bill. I absolutely hate H&R drivers........................low lifes.

JLP Services Inc (Jennifer) about me thread..
Chris C replied to jlpservicesinc's topic in Member Projects
One is extremely Blessed when a hobby can be enjoyed as a profession. Not everyone has that Blessing. I did for 17 years as a custom furniture builder. But when I retired, I found that I honestly no longer found great pleasure in wood working as a hobby. Hmmmmmm? I can still make something the little wife wants and enjoy the process and reward of the completion. But I don't jump onto another project the very next day or even start planning the next project. Just no "lust" for it. Not quite sure where I want this forge work to end up. Do know I'm enjoying making these knives........even though this one is only my second. Will just have to see what the journey turns out to be. -
Welcome to the forum, Danielito. Please don't take offense, but "no blacksmiths in the UK" has got to be a joke. A bit of searching on the Internet will put you in touch with many...........if not way more than "many" blacksmiths in the UK. Try checking here: http://blacksmiths.mygenwebs.com/ Also, if you'll check this out, https://www.history.co.uk/shows/forged-with-steele/articles/blacksmithing-in-the-uk I think you'll find that Alec Steele could put you onto a bunch of blacksmiths over there.

What did you do in the shop today?

When I moved to my little piece of heaven here in the woods in 1999, the place was crawling with Coyote, Raccoons, etc., etc., etc. The previous owners of the property even asked me to continue feeding the Raccoons dog food at night. (didn't take me long to realize her little pets were actually a "herd" of 50 plus Raccoons that EXPECTED to be fed at sundown every night and would be all over my roof, back porch.............on my lawn chairs and paws on the patio doors waiting. What a mess!) But that's a whole 'nother story. So back to the Coyote population. Started shooting them any time I'd see one. They were always stalking my Llamas. I had 23 Llamas at the time and wanted to keep them! Didn't take but about two years to stop the problem. Don't know if I decimated the packs or just "convinced" them to move to another neighborhood, but while we hear them all the time, we seldom see them any more. -
Tear out Kast-O-Lite, or add another layer?
Chris C replied to JHCC's topic in Insulation and Refractories
Yup, I know to mix it like mortar. I think that's why it stabilizes so quickly. Never messed with KOL30 before, so am kind of surprised how easily it has gone. I'll go out and see if I can turn it to the next wall in a little while. I want to do the floor last. -

Jasent, I just went out to my shop and the ceiling was hard enough for me to turn the forge and do a wall. Think I'll just let each wall set up an hour and do the next one. I'll finish it before i go to bed tonight. -

Not to worry, Jennifer. Not doing anything my electrician doesn't say he'd do! I'm sure he'll put in a 50 amp breaker. The 220V line from the box to the outlet I presently have is only 8 feet, but it's 30 amp. There won't be any two 220V machines or pieces of equipment running at the same time. I'm not worried, Tim is a licensed electrician and knows what he's doing. Frankly, when it comes to dem lectricks, I don't listen to anyone on-line. -

Not going from the house to the welder, Jennifer. I've got 220v in my wood working shop. Up the wall from the closest 220v outlet, over a room and down the wall in the forge room is only 40 feet . I'm going to call my electrician and get him to come and quote installing the run. I'll pick his brain and install it myself. Not real honorable, but I'm out of money and need the welder so this weldor can start making some things for the forge. Got to get Whispering Pines Forge up, running and operational. Need to be making blades and selling them............and anything else I can make. Been dumping money into this enterprise for over a year now and it's time to earn a little return on investment. -

Thanks, Frosty, good suggestion. Got the ceiling done just now. Will do one of the walls tomorrow and the other the next day............then the floor. Hope that's the way to do it. For some reason I'm thinking I can't do all four surfaces at once...............correct? -

AC only..........and I know the limitations. It's exactly what I need for what I want to be able to do. I'm as happy as a bug in a rug. -

Not forging, as such, but I took my "new to me" Tombstone welder to a friend's shop to make sure it works........and my new extension cord was hooked up right. Everything worked great and I'm tickled to say I've got an arc welder for my shop.................finally. Now all I have to do is to run 45 feet of 220V to my forging room so I'll have a plug out there. Gettin' ready to go put a coat of KOL on the ceiling of my forge. YEAH!!!!!! -

Chris C replied to JHCC's topic in Insulation and Refractories
I'm gettin' close to doing the KOL on my forge. My thought was to coat everything and then after it's cured put a layer of aluminum foil on the bottom and up the sides about an inch and put a coat of KOL on that. Pull out the aluminum foil after curing and I've got an easily replaceable "liner" for the floor. When it gets messed up I'll just toss it and make another. -
Yup, WeGone, don't give it a second thought. IF&C always makes that suggestion when he see's a new person. pnut was right, there are a "few peculiarities on the site" that you won't normally see on others and it just makes getting started a lot easier if you go read the "Rules" of the forum. Welcome aboard.

I dated a "lovely lass", back with I was a strappin' young buck, who was from Scotland. She always called me her "bonnie laddie". Always thought that was cool.

That was the first thought that came to my mind, IFC.

I think it looks great. Just because it's forged doesn't mean it has to be thick and bulky/heavy. -
How could you not love them already. I'm drooling on this end of the Internet! I'd love to come into a stash like that.

Production of Roses (for Valentine's day)
Chris C replied to TechnicusJoe's topic in Metal Sculpture & Carvings
Very nice, Joey. I always enjoy watching you work. Thanks for putting this video on the forum. -
Stick around and you'll learn a lot...............unless you're "slow" like me! Lot's of really experienced blacksmiths here on the forum Many of them have been banging on hot steel longer than I've been alive, I think. Good bunch of folks. Be sure and carefully read the rules for using the forum. This isn't like most forums and you'll want to watch your language...........even if you're just trying to be funny. Other than that, it's a fun forum.
