  1. Pull up and log and sit a spell by the fire. The coffee's hot and "fairly" palatable........just don't complain about the grounds! Welcome aboard.
  2. Well, I'm slower than molasses in the middle of a Siberian Winter, but I got my wooden casting box filled with 1/8" straws to make my FARB today. Man, those little things are close together. I'm intimidated to even try and mix up this gravelly stuff to try and push it in-between them to make the castable part. I'm "dead in the water" on another project and we got a layer of snow today so there's not much to do around the place. I guess I'll be mixing and "poking" after dinner this evening. I want to get this forge up and running so I no longer have to go "borrow" a forge to make my knives...........................and, besides, I REALLY need to just start heating metal and practicing hammer control.
  3. That's strange, CGL. I'd never heard of that kind of critter before and looked it up using the "Transylvanian naked neck chickens" and got just what I was looking for...................weird lookin' chickens!
  4. For me, some of the stuff I'd like to learn would be too dangerous for my brain to handle.
  5. When I said "I won't ask", JHCC, what I really meant was I don't even want to know! Chasin' dem lectrics is above my pay grade!
  6. I won't even ask what "de-rating" wires means.
  7. Wish it were only a "couple hundred", JHCC. But I've gotta do what I've gotta do. Thanks for all the recommendations, guys. I'll give my guy a call.
  8. Thanks, guys. Not WHAT I wanted to hear but what I NEEDED to hear, I guess. I'm not an electrician by any means. I've done some wiring, but no 220 and know nothing about "2 hots, 1 neutral plus 1 ground"! The receptacle and plug I bought for the extension cord didn't have any place for a second "hot"! Guess I'd better bite the bullet and save up my money and pay my electrician to do the work. I'm sure not qualified to put in a panel. Just "thought" I was getting close to being able to start learning how to weld.
  9. Well, not the kind that goes at the head of my grave! I've been looking for a Lincoln 225amp AV welder for about 10 months. Finally found a good one............hardly used (rubber looked like it just came from the factory) but 35 or so years old. Heavier than a couple of buckets of lead, so it's copper wired. Enough about that. I've just finished making up a 25 foot extension cord from a 50 amp cord a friend gave me. Now, the final touch.......................I need to run about 45 feet of wire from a 220 box in my wood working shop out to my forge room. I've got plenty of 600V 12-2 underground cable................will that work and is it safe? If so, do I have to run it inside conduit or can I staple it to the headers and down the post in my forge?
  10. I can't post a link because I'll be beheaded shortly after the firing squad. I have some of the most comfortable wax impregnated cotton ear plugs I've ever worn. Bought them because sometimes in RV campgrounds people don't honor the quiet time rules and get a bit rowdy. I've a lot of different noise activated plugs I've used for shooting scenarios, but they wouldn't be comfortable to sleep in. These wax plugs are so comfortable you don't even know you have them in and they work great. They are made by a company called Beneficial Products, Inc. (hope I don't get shot over that!)
  11. My little wife has hyperacusis. I swear, she can hear a gnat pass gas...............at 20 feet!!! I'm really not even kidding. I'm hearing impaired and she's super sensitive to noise. We can sit in the swing on our back porch and she complains because the squirrel eating corn in the feeder over 50 feet away is annoying her. Drives me nuts. Causes a lot of problems between us.
  12. Yup. Well I dang sure better get crackin' if''n someone is waitin' fer me! Lot's of knives before I sleep. ("Miles to go before I sleep".)
  13. Beginning to wonder! All of my dreams for about the past 6 months have been about people in my past (many who are playing harps in Heaven) Kind of has me wondering if someone is "calling".
  14. Well no need to stop here. Isn't really anything to look at here yet. I'm as slow as molasses in the dead of Winter. I seldom get anything done because I'm always trying to do too much at one time.
  15. Well, I jus figgered as versatile as you are, surely you could figger some way of doin' it!
  16. What a journey. What I want to know is................are ya gonna put wheels on that new training facility? Sure hope so, I'd enjoy it if you'd bring it down here to Oklahoma.
  17. Still sittin' here reading...............oh, and eatin' popcorn! (could someone pass the salt?)
  18. Nice lookin' knife, Jonah. Good save.
  19. Bet that would be an interesting one to look through and emulate.
