  1. VoldemarDemid, I wish you would post what is going on in each picture on that video because I can't tell from my small cell phone screen. Looks very interesting...
  2. Did your leverage pipe ever work out? Are you thinking of a hydraulic attachment yet? Probably need some dies to figure all that out first. Nice manual.
  3. Rainy day projects. Castings I made for gifts. I planed and beveled them off on the shaper and then hand polished them.
  4. Which came first, the chicken or the egg?
  5. Have you looked up chromite sand? It's evidently used in the foundry industry these days. I don't know about it contributing to permanancey of your molds though. I might have to get a copy of that book you have, just for fun. Chromite is a bit of a rabbit hole. It led me to chromium, then hexavalent chromium and all over the place. I would do a lot of research on these things, just for safety and piece of mind.
  6. I think all sizes could be made out of pipe and the plate doesn't have to be thick. Actually, no real need for facing them either, I just had it set up, soooo.... I'm not very good at describing things sometimes.
  7. Unfortunately no, and most all of my things are boxed and crated up, being stored or I'd take a few. Basically, the smaller dies up to 4" are solid round barstock with a center hole and the larger sizes are slices of heavey wall pipe (with the ends beveled before welding) with a plate welded on each end, cut and ground flush with the pipe and then the hole drilled and pipe faced on the lathe. A picture is worth a thousand words, eh?
  8. I wanted those two books so I had to buy the whole box! The rest go to The Friends of the Library for their book sale....
  9. Glad to contribute..... . I'm amazed at how underutilized mine has been with just round homemade dies. First thing I am going to make is the eye bolt bending dog and pin.
  10. I got a bandsaw with a fried motor at the flee market last Friday. It's the same model as one I already have but was so cheap I could not pass it up. Also a couple of books.
  11. This old thread has a mention of using one for glass. I have always been interested in adding slumping glass to some of my sculptures but don't think I will ever go that route. There are some comments on safety as well. Mod note: I merged the threads since they are a continuation of the same thing
  12. Yeah, I think you suggested I name it "Bill"..... Probably was the alligator.
  13. I had the same kind on my old shop, Lol.... One day it broke and I had to use Hi-Lift jacks and 2x4's to lift it up. One big, long door.
  14. I used rebar for bird talons and just forged a point on them. Touch up with a grinder. Less work than fangs though. I remember some claws you forged but wonder what you ever used them for.
  15. I will follow along. I have a homemade rig I built based on one my grandfather made, but without a lot of the accessories. I already learned a lot from your links. Thank you.
  16. I bet people make up their own Razors to suit their purposes and beliefs. What defines a legitimate Razor? Is there a Razor for shaving off phony Razors so no time is wasted on contemplating them? Each Razor I have read can be twisted all kinds of ways to mean what one wants to believe. Well, maybe not the duck one.
  17. You and Deb are in my prayers, Jerry. Get well soon.
  18. I have heard of Occam's Razor but never bothered to look up it, or "razors" meaning. Razors are an interesting subject as Hefty says. Heres one I found. Tarzwell’s Razor. “Where there is passion, the truth cannot be trusted.” With great emotion comes great bias.
  19. Lol, for some reason this reminded me of when I was trying to learn airbrushing in my 20's and did a lot of dragons so I dug out my old artwork and had a look-see. Not much survived the years and life thus far.... a lot lost and ruined along the way. I'll have to compare asian and european dragons. Humanoid body would be good. Lots of sharp teeth?
  20. It looks like a dragon from here. I can imagine quite a few possible things it could morph into though, as you say, it can lead itself into what it ends up as. You never know....
  21. Thank you so much. I agree, being able to pick out specific objects and bits helps people to connect to the overall sculpture. I must admit, I am sometimes guilty of slipping in a "mystery object" or two just to keep them guessing..... . I think tales from the past works both ways. Looking back at some of my sculptures, I remember where a certain part came from. A job, a friend, a junk scrounging jaunt..... . It's all great fun!
  22. Very nice! Your work always inspires me to improve my own. Such detail. I love them all but my favorite is the work horse with the snake a close second.
  23. Tmate, I love those motorbikes. Nice set-up you have there, I can imagine a lot of possibilities.... One can never have too many skills or tools at their disposal!
