  1. I did a search on here but did not find anything. I have been re-searching silver mining in the old west boom and came across these. Has anybody ever visited a place like this. Interesting they wound up as stage coach bandit hideouts according to lore. Talk about hard labor loading them. https://www.archaeology.org/issues/503-2303/digs/11205-off-the-grid
  2. I have aged a bit though since making this one.
  3. Today I re-build my burner and tested it in a forge mock up with some hard bricks I had laying about. I sure hope it gets hotter in a proper forge body (not a brickpile)..... My old forge disintegrated and went to the dumpster. I might make a viking bottle opener yet....
  4. Makes eating a cheeseburger, fiddling with your phone and adjusting the radio all at the same easier. Just an observation.
  5. As a matter of fact, I had never heard that song until now. A good one too! Sixteen Tons? Now I'm just being silly.....
  6. Maybe claustrophobic was a bit of a strong word but being wedged 300' down in a rock hole at some crazy angle is more than I can think about.
  7. Oops, I edited my comment while Jerry was posting. I was talking about GPS, solar flares and what not. Sorry.
  8. He looks pooped out. Here's Johnny, a maniac poodle from Florida my sister just adopted. It takes a lot of patience with some animals but pays off in the long run for everybody.
  9. If you make a video can you play "Big Bad John" with lyrics? . Nice job!
  10. Sorry, GhostTownForge, I missed the homeschool part but if they offer a class of any sort you are interested in, take advantage of it. Who knows what you will learn.
  11. I made a roller to replace part 11B square block on the "swing arm" out of pipe and pressed in bearings with the same bore as the pin. It made bending smooth as butter, but wonder if it would hold up to heavey stuff you want to bend.
  12. It takes time to make friends, cultivate connections and learn where resources are. I'm going to get them some donuts like Geoerge mentioned. I haven't tried "brown pop" yet but they did look thirsty and it wasn't even hot out.....
  13. I was thinking maybe it wound up in the evidence locker.... Nice Shepards Staff!
  14. You can watch them live streaming too, I see. Also a great website. Thanks for pointer to Corning Museum of Glass.
  15. I used to have a friend that worked in wood and he would really have appreciated that. He never used power tools, if you can believe that. His work was amazing. I had Stevens double barrel shotgun that he engraved the stock on but it got stolen. On top of that it was my dads. I often wonder where it's at today.
  16. I haunted junkyards and old trainwreck sites back home for some time but thanks for the reminder. Pull one little piece out and the whole wreckage comes falling down. Or trip and fall down without gloves and cut your hands up. Safety first. I broke my own usual procedure for gaining future access my first visit and offered the guy a cash tip. I forgot to bring anything as a thank you. Don't ever do that. I got the sideways look. They might get into trouble for taking money. This time took them lunch from a food truck. I'll make them something for next time. I have to admit, the alert idea is a GOOD one, I never considered. Thanks.
  17. They have a LOT of junk there. I feel lucky to be able to pick around there in the first place.
  18. Latticino, it was at a place called Starworks in Star, NC. It's a small place but they have a gallery/giftshop and workshops. Thanks, I did not know it had to get in the annealer so fast. I was expecting them to hold it up for us to see. There was quite a lot of people there, I'm going back, they hold regular events.
  19. "ever changing radius" I always thought that was an involute curve...
  20. I went to a glassblowing demo/festival recently. While not blacksmithing, it was interesting to see them working as a team as blacksmiths sometimes do. And with fire.... I love watching talented people do what they do. The first demo they made a human heart of all things. I tried to get a photo of it but they shoved it right into an oven too fast. I wanted to ask about slumping glass into metal but didn't learn much. It was at an artist colony and they offer a (too) basic blacksmithing class, but plan to expand on that in the future, so I'm keeping an eye on them.
  21. How is Oakley adapting to his new home? He is a handsome fellow.
  22. I'd start wondering if I didn't carry a hoofcane and saw those print's....
  23. That sounds like a neat project. Rivits probably work better than duct tape.... I have a lot of things I wish I had taken photo's of but for one reason or another never did. They are fun go post and look at but don't believe in the "never happened" hocus pocus. "Here's a photo of blurry kodak picture I took 45 years ago"....
