Advice on Bending 2" Bar
TWISTEDWILLOW replied to DonB82's topic in Blacksmithing, General Discussion
If you can get it hot enough to bend then 2” stock is big enough that I think it should retain heat really well, moving between the forge and the bending fixture, are these gonna be load bearing? -
Thomas, I don’t think Jerry would handle the heat down there to well… he turns his air conditioner on during weather above 50 degrees F glad to see Debi up an moving around! hope to see y’all at tired iron this weekend!

CAN YOU IDENTIFY THIS ANVIL?

Ive worked on several of those little bufco Buffalo blowers an brought em back to life, an I still got a couple hanging around the smithy, a word of caution on the sheet metal stamped Buffalo blowers, they have fiber washers/spacers in them, be very careful as they can and will crumble an disintegrate on ya!!! And when it happens the blower gears won’t be at the right spacing and the blower can lock up on ya mid use! It’s very aggravating ask me how I know! Lol Those blowers are awesome but I have had to fix a few small issues with them, I’ve come up with some fixes though for those models that hold up really well so if ya ever run into problems lemme know

CAN YOU IDENTIFY THIS ANVIL?
TWISTEDWILLOW replied to realerikwood's topic in Anvils, Swage Blocks, and Mandrels
It looks like it says fisher Norris to me, that’s a odd step down from the face to the horn, I haven’t seen that style on a fisher, so I googled it an another one like it popped up in online images, I’ll have to flip through AinA to see if there’s a fisher like that in there, -

Using metal files as stock
TWISTEDWILLOW replied to Shainarue's topic in Blacksmithing, General Discussion
Ive seen a lot of neat things made from files and rasps! I’d definitely go for em if the price is right! ive got a few saved aside myself that I plan on making tomahawks outta this fall, The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is keep ‘em away from water or your project can crack, -

Making charcoal traditional way
TWISTEDWILLOW replied to natkova's topic in Solid Fuels: Coal, Coke, Charcoal, Wood, etc
There used to be a lot of commercial charcoal kilns here in Adair county, I’ve thought it’d be cool to buy a couple acres and rebuild one for a living history type thing -
I hope it works for multiples i plan on making a boat load of sleigh bells on it soon!
