  1. no offense taken George! No need to apologize for anything, I was the one pickin on you! Lol i guess I came across wrong, that’s the hard thing about typing stuff instead of talkin to someone in person, that’s why I try to use emoji’s to lighten up the tone, So definitely nothing on my part!….. well not unless your holding out a 16” champion on me!
  2. One of my post vises has that wedged pivot pin for the movable jaw and I got to looking at it and the body the yesterday when the sun was beeming on it and it looked like that vise was forged welded together using smaller strips to build up the body, i took some pictures but they aren’t great, I’ll have to clean it off and get some better pictures of the lines
  3. Oh good grief George! we’ve done been through this before i know your feelings on the matter, I’ve heard your speech many times, an I’m sure I’ll hear it many more i ain’t keeping nothing from nobody! and I don’t have a chair made of anvils I pass on a lot of stuff I find, in fact I just had a new smith stop by yesterday to acquire some stuff to get him started, i even buy the broken an frozen stuff that’s missing parts just to keep it out of the scrap yard, and when I have enough parts piled up to resurrect one I do so, Although I do like finding oddball stuff like a 16” champion blower would be awesome! Farmall, that sounds awesome! I’ve never seen one of those either! do ya got a picture?
  4. I like your style George! funny you mention that… I do have a big steam whistle I found! I been running it off compressed air! too the wonder, enjoyment, terror and aggravation of the citizens of peavine Oklahoma! and I’ve a had my eye on a pretty big hit an miss engine settin in a yard north of here! it’s been in the county for a hundred years, two brothers ran a saw mill off it till they died an the current owner bought it for a lawn ornament, that thing has duel flywheels heavier than a lot of anvils! Lol again I don’t need it but it would look so much better here then it does there! Lol plus if I had it I’d get that dude up running again and like you said I could start hookin up my junk to it! I’ve also been tryin to track down a steam engine that powered a canning plant here in the county up till the 40s but the last owner has died and that threw a wrench in my gears trying to locate it, My place already is enough to give an osha inspector a heart attack! Lord knows what would happen if I get my paws on a steam engine!
  5. Jerry, I always wondered where you got your sense of humor! Randy, I’m glad y’all like the book, as soon as I saw it I thought about y’all an decided that y’all needed it in your library! lol
  6. Well yeah George! Of course I don’t need one… i want one! There’s a big difference! Lol Like I said I need another blower like I would need a 1000 pound anvil to make s hooks with, I have lots of blowers to use already, including some champion 400s and I have some belt driven ones that size an bigger, but but but…. I don’t have a 16” hand crank blower so the most logical thing to do now that I know they exist is to find one an add it to my horde of rusty junk!!!! muahahahaha!
  7. Sorry for Waking up an old thread, now I gotta find one of these! Lol the largest champion I’ve came across was a 14” an it was massive compared to all the blowers I have, that 16” looks awesome! I need another blower like I need a hole in the head but didn’t know anyone made a hand crank blower that big! So now I gotta find one lol
  8. Jerry’s right we’re just messin, Howdy from eastern Oklahoma! and welcome to the forum!
  9. Hahaha! Ya ain’t got as many miss understandings that way! other people talk to fast and always mixin stuff up!
  10. Whatcha talkin bout Charles? Us okies have perfect language skills! even Jerry can understand us!
  11. Scott I wanna visit that garden center one day! It sounds like they got everything!
  12. Lol that card still cracks me up! Y’all’s very welcome! Hope y’all find the book interesting!
  13. I did, they are always fun to visit with, imma try and run over to their smithy a couple times this fall an winter when my busy season slows down here at the shop, they offered to help me with some projects I been wanting to do, x3 in the pintle hitch those thing can be pricey, I’d keep it for that one rainy day or sell it an buy other steel,
  14. It the mounting bracket an screw box look like a Peter Wright to me, I’ve seen a lot of PW post vises that use that same bracket, that bein said over the last hundred years a lot of post vises have been cobbled together using parts from two or three to make one, and Sears sold spare parts, so there’s no guarantee that even a marked one is all original, as far as it’s value it’s probably worth a lot more out your way then here in Oklahoma but I say keep it and use it!
  15. My smithy is open air I have some sand stands for a couple of my anvils an my next stand I’m gonna try out a tripod for my portable kit, but I do have a 225 mounted on a oak stump out there that does alright, Personally I’m not concerned about a stump lasting forever, when it rots out I’ll throw it in the shop stove and set the anvil on another stump, but I burn wood so I always have a ready supply of oak an hickory stumps so they seem disposable/recyclable to me,
  16. Howdy from eastern Oklahoma and welcome to the forum! you have some nice tools, what kinda of fuel were you using that give you trouble in your coal forge?
  17. two weeks? That’s about the speed the USPS has been delivering my letters to people!
  18. Jerry, We talked about a bunch of people in and around the blacksmithing community and what all they all have goin on! but I don’t recall the name Lyle coming up In conversation, is that someone up your way?
  19. Thanks Randy! Don’t worry George, that thing has been setting for years with no valves on it Yes it’s too big as it is, I would be cutting the big bowl ends off both sides for other uses and probably but the middle in half again That’s a pretty neat idea I’d never heard of that before! Laynne, that’s a cool idea! I wasn’t planning on doing any forced air through it just a big wood stove lol
  20. Holy cow what are y’all forgin up north? Steel moose? i use a 20lb head on the treadle hammer!
  21. Brian brazeal an Ed Brazeal stopped by the shop today, we had a good visit today an talked all things blacksmithing, an they gave me some pointers, tips an tricks to try out! Brian hasn’t been on ifi in awhile but said he may pop in soon an say hello sometime, Ed I don’t think has been on here before but said he may swing in an say howdy to everyone too! While they were here they gave me a bottle of flux They’d been using an told me to try it out, its iron mountain flux, it’s new to me I haven’t tried it, but they said it works pretty good, I’ve been using Peterson’s number 2 blue flux with success that Jerry suggested to me a year ago! so this will gimme something new to try!
