  1. Thank you again Tom, I haven't used mine very much yet. Now I will. I'm very well pleased with it. Made just like I wanted it. Never thought about stamping my tools. Good idea Frosty!! Thank You All, Billy
  2. A lot of good information here. And yes, they are BEAUTIFUL NAILS!!
  3. Nothing like some good friendly humor first thing in the morning. Billy
  4. Thanks for the pics about the nail header. Billy
  5. Been wondering how to get a dome on a nail header!! Thank You Billy
  6. Thanks Rich Seems as though I'm guilty of all of the above. When I go to the anvil I try to get all lined up correctly (and the metal gets cold), but before I'm through there is no telling which way I'll be positioned. And thanks for the trick about the anvil height. I think that seems to be a problem for me. I've raised it once but I need to again. Billy
  7. Something similar happened to me. I wet my coal down that was on the table. Gave a crank and it exploded back into my blower. Glad I had a fire extinguisher handy. A lesson learned I guess. Glad your OK, at least half way OK! Thanks for reminding us of the dangers. Billy
  8. Sam, So you need one for a squirrel bite! It didn't quite draw blood. But had a nasty bruise (I had gloves on so don't ask). I was thinking rabies, my wife said no blood no worry. I guess she was right. I'm still here. Back to the thread, Thanks for the reminder about a tetanus shot. Billy
  9. This is my shop. Very primitive. My great-grandfather built it and was used as a blacksmith shop by him and my grandfather. Probably more for shoeing horses and making small things needed at the time. http://www.iforgeiron.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=15626&stc=1&d=1247408341
  10. Just thought I'd show mine. I really like yours. Billy http://www.iforgeiron.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=15625&stc=1&d=1247402958
  11. Nice forge! I like the way you've mounted the blower. The hood and stack, I really like that. Does it draw good? I have a similar forge except no hood. Been trying to figure out how to fix one. I got some of my ideas on design from blksmth.com Thanks for the pics Billy
  12. I've used all of the above, except I haven't cooked yet. Sure have been thinking about it though. They all work.
  13. Looks like a very handy tool. I like it.
  14. I agree with Finnr, don't take it apart. In my opinion you don't need to fill it up with oil, it'll just run out. I have one and early on was told they are meant to leak. Just add a few drops of oil before you use it and a couple more during the day if you think about it. Billy
  15. Are you sure you want a concrete floor. They are very bad on the feet and knees. Just my 2 cents!
  16. Forgot to tell you, I like the gates.
  17. Looks real good. Nice looking Champion 400. I'd like to see a picture of the way you have it hooked to the tuyere. Thanks Billy
  18. Glad I don't do this for a living (the money part I mean)
  19. Thanks for sharing the photos and links to The Woodwright's Shop. I was at Peter Ross's and really enjoyed the demo.
  20. Saw a bolt being forged the other day. A very interesting demonstration. I did a search but didn't see anything at first (quite a few threads with the word bolts in them). Just wondering if this is done very much. Billy
  21. !!...... There is no turning back now ......!!
  22. Chris, I have that book and have read that. Thanks for refreshing my memory. CBrann, Thanks for the reply. I have definitely had a learning experience. You have given me things to do and think about. Thanks men, Billy
  23. Very, so I found out yesterday afternoon. Had my fire going with coke left from last time I used it. Added some coal around the edges and sprinkled some water on it. I heard a slight pop. Looked around and flames were coming out of the hole of my Champion blower. The first thing I did (like a fool) was grab my water can. Water didn't work. Remembered the fire extinguisher by the door that I had hung there a couple of months ago. One short blast was all it took. Some time ago I had started the forge and there was a very loud pop. That time it blew the hose off of the fire pot. What causes this? Billy
  24. Thanks Bob I have a couple of brackets (braces) that I've forged for some overhang at my small shop. I didn't want to paint them. I like your finish. Thanks Billy
