  1. I just got a Buffalo Electric Blower with motor control. It looks to be in fair shape. The motor works and blowes good air, made noise, I oiled it but as usual it leaked right out. It did stop some of the noise. there was packing in the oil holes. It was all dried up. Got most of it out I think. Do I need to put some back? My main problem is the wiring. Looks like something might be missing on the controller. I would post some pictures be can't get them to upload right now (new computer!!). Not sure about model number. It has F-27594 as the number. Would this be the model number? Dose anyone know where I might find some information. Thanks Billy
  2. I would really like to try a chisel. Hope you fellows keep this thread going. Thanks Billy
  3. I have a new iMac. Can't get pictures to upload. Any ideas what I need to do. Thanks Billy
  4. I had some metal laying around and happened to come across blksmith.com. From the pictures of his this is what I come up with. I'm very new at this but it seems to work pretty good. The only things I might do is try to come up with a way to mount the blower on the forge and have some removable handles (like wheel barrow handles). New computer, can't upload pictures. Maybe I'll figure it out soon!
  5. Like the gringing wheel, I have always wanted one but never been able to find one. You sure were at the right place at the right time. Nice set up you have. Really like the knife. Something I haven't tried yet. I sure do like the braiding. Something (braiding) that has always caught my attention. Is it something you picked up on your on or is there instructions somewhere? Thanks for the thread. Billy
  6. They look nice painted but I like them as is. With all the oil I don't beleive they will rust.
  7. Been trying to make nails some lately. Some turn out fair some not so fair. Thanks for the thread Billy
  8. crij, You said: "I normally take the top cover off each time I use it to add oil, as the oil hole, in the cover, only drops oil on the worm drive gear and not the spur gear connected to the handle." Never done the quote thing, sorry! Good idea, never thought about that. Thanks for bringing it to our attention. Billy By the somebody, how do you do a quote?
  9. Glad you got it off. What I do and have read and been told what other people do is just a couple squirts of oil(30 weight, automatic trans fluid, etc, etc and etc) before and maybe durning the time you are using it. Do a search and you will find alot of different ideas on this. It's doesn't matter what your using it's going to leak out. Some people say grease the bearings. I did (probably used to heavy of a grease) and had to clean it out. Made it very hard to crank. Now just a few drops of oil and it works good. Billy
  10. After you use the penetrating oil and give it time to soak the cover won't come straight off. It slides to the back (away from blower end)I think, it's been awhile since I've had mine off. There are 2 screws on the inside that holds it down. I think 2, man this getting old is bad. Can't remember nothing anymore. Anyway just be patient. It'll come off. Good Luck Billy
  11. Gaylan, Shake his hand for me and you fellows have a good time. Ragnarok, I thought a shop was suppose to be kinda messy. You know, that worked in look.
  12. Nice anvils Is that a bicycle pedal on the crank of your blower? If so, thats not a bad idea. Never seen that before. From what can be seen, looks like you have a nice shop too. Tongs are looking good too. Billy
  13. This thread was a lot of fun to read and see. Blacksmithing, hard work, a lot of fun and a bunch of great people! Brian, Somewhere I read that you're planning to be in NC. If so have you decided where it will be. It would be a privilege to meet you and Karen. Hope that it will so that I can. Would love to have one of those hammers! Thanks for sharing all you guys do with us, Billy
  14. Thanks for all the good information in this thread. Things we all need to think about and keep in mind. As a carpenter now for 30+++++ years I've had elbow problems. Very painful to say the least. I had always used a 16oz hammer for framing and trimming. Changed to a 13oz and have not had hardly any problem since (that was 15....20 years ago maybe)except the cold hard fact of getting old (older!!). Thanks for the thread, Billy
  15. Thanks, You all have answered my question. I guess thats why about all pintels you see were made to be driven in. Thanks for the quick replies, Billy
  16. Made some strap hinges the other day. I bought lag bolts and cut the heads off for pintels. I don't think I've read or heard about putting wood threads on something. How do you do it? Thank You Billy
  17. Don, Thanks for the threads. They look real good. Like Frosty said in one of the threads, making one isn't bad but making another and then several that look exactly the same is quite a challenge. I make one of something that I think looks decent and then try another and sometimes it seems impossible. I guess thats why everybody says pratice , pratice and more of it! Thank You Billy
  18. Nice hinges. Like the hook and eyes, never know they store bought. I was thinking yesterday about how you would go about putting threads for wood on something. I made some hinges yesterday (strap hinges) (nothing close to yours). I bought lag bolts to make the pentil ( is this the right word). I don't know that I have seen this talked about. How is it done? Billy
  19. Charlotte, My forge is always inside but I just about always clean it out when I'm finished forging. My shop is an old log building and is almost like being outside except for the roof. Covforge, Guilty, I let my fire get low toward the end when I'm getting ready to finish (trying to save coal I guess). I try to not pour water on the firepot but have been thinking about the way I wet the coal. I wet it around the sides of the firepot, that way water probably runs down the 2 edges that are burning. I'm going to change my bad habits. Thank You Charlotte and Covforge So when I have to get a new firepot is there a better one than what I have? Thanks Billy
  20. I have a Centura Firepot that is less than a year old. When I cleaned it out last time I noticed what looked like coal dust building up on the sides. I tried scraping it off with my fire rape. It's starting to corrode already. I thought a Centura Firepot would last much longer than this. Am I doing something wrong. I usually try to keept my coal fairly damp and last winter used charcoal from my wood furnace.Any ideas what i'm doing wrong or this just normal. Tried to post some pictures to give an idea what it looks like. Kinda had to see though. Billy
  21. I,m very new to Blacksmithing and a long time custom home builder. These guys have given a lot of very good advice here. They know exactly what they are talking about. All of this reminds me of something my grandfather told me not long after me and my partner started working for ourselves (30+ years in business, the economy is about to end it !). He said: Never do work for family or friends that you expect to get paid for. I didn't listen and have done both, some good some not quite so good. But it's still something I think about very often. Good Luck, Billy
  22. Been making some nails which seems to be good practice. It usually takes a few (several) heats and most of the time the heads aren't centered on the shank. Sometimes I can do some re-forging and make them half way decent. My headers aren't the best either, need to work on them some too. Could us some pointers. Thanks Billy
  23. Cindy, I don't think anybody can! Travis, I have an old eMac. Could not watch the video but thanks for sharing it. Billy
  24. I don't guess you would share the video with us!!
  25. divermike You wouldn't happen to have a picture of it would you! Billy
