  1. Here's the latest addition to the collection :) Near mint 70 pound kohlswa for $50 It fits in well with the others.
  2. Is that a cast steel anvil? That would explain the grain size.
  3. Ok guys... We HAVE to figure out what brand these are. I just bought the big brother to both if yours. Mine is 68 pounds and has the same markings. 68 ers WOO
  4. Thanks for the tip Dan, I have considered it but haven't given it a try yet although using the vice never crossed my mind.
  5. Lol a whole bunch. Lots of tongs for holding almost anything except for what I need to hold the most, knife blades. I've also got some hot cuts, fullers, flatter, cold cuts and quite a few chisels and drifts. Most of the tools I have are in very poor shape but there cool to have. Most of my anvils are very rough.
  6. I guess in a way I "collect" stuff but I use pretty much everything I have. Not at the same time of course lol. I don't have any pictures right now. 10 anvils, 6 forges and a wack load of tools. I know some of you are against collecting stuff like this but...
  7. Oh man you guys are STEALING those little anvils!!!! Good score man! I hope somebody can identify it for ya. Rob, yours is a twin to that one for sure!
  8. Great deal man! I would have snagged that in a heartbeat! One question tho, it looks like the base has been welded back on? Looks like some serious welds to me, how's the rebound?
  9. Thomas, I don't collect them ALLL I can't afford some of them :) I only really have a couple great anvils, most of mine are pretty rough, cracked or broken and some are just plain old ;)
  10. I just got a forge exactly like that one! No markings or anything. It would be cool to find out who made it. Do these pump forges have a lot of value?
  11. Lol Rob, I'm ok with having two :) the first one I got isn't very good because I had to weld it back together at the waist.
  12. Ok. Thanks a lot guys :) I was hoping it would have been a different brand because I already have a Trenton but the price was right.
  13. I can't find any marks on this anvil besides the serial number on the front foot "A145282", a 101 on the other front foot and an upside down "U" under the heal. It's got an olvel impression on the base. I still have to wire brush it but I couldn't wait to find out what she is so I thought I'd post a couple pictures and ask! Once I wire brush the whole thing I will post more pictures.
  14. It's just a solid cast iron anvil. I knew when I got it that it wasn't a prize lol. Although it is similar looking to a fisher but there's no face plate. One can dream right? Lol Fishers always had really defined markings in them, there's absolutely nothing on this one. It was thrown in with 2 forges, a bunch of tools, 300 anarco and red Indian cans and a whole bunch of other stuff so I'm not losing any sleep over it.
  15. Lol sorry man. I wire brushed the anvil a bit today and there are no marks anywhere that I can tel. There's a small olvel shaped impression on the base if that helps at all.
  16. Lol I appreciate the info but I can't let this forge go lol. I've got 5 other forges you could chose from tho! Lol
  17. Yeah it would be a ton of work and not really worth it lol.
  18. You think it could be a fisher? That would be awesome :) I didn't notice any markings on it but I haven't wire brushed it yet. If it is a fisher it would be worth my time to slowly fix it up. That big forge is going to be my new user, the anvil was thrown in for free with the two forges I bought. I also got a bunch of tongs and top tools thrown in. The other forge that I got has the wooden handle that you pump up and down :) I think it's time to sell off some forges tho... I now have six of them
  19. Here's my ugliest anvil so far! Not sure what kind she is but it's cast iron and well used.
  20. Yeah man! Get that thing back into its birthday suit!
  21. That knife should outlast many store bought knives! The only thing I would do differently, and its not to late to change, is round the scales a little more for comfort. Other then that it looks like a darn good user.
  22. Don't forget, most store bought knives are made from knife grade stainless but they are far softer then almost any properly heat treated stainless knives made by hand. 440c got a bad reputation for being poor for that reason when in fact it's a really nice steel if heat treated properly.
  23. Let it ride man, carbon steel will get a patina in no time. I chopped up some potatoes and it left a very neat pattern on the blade. The only thing you could do to prevent that is to never use it really or you could slow it down by giving it a mirror finish and waxing the blade.
  24. Sorry I don't have any info on it but that's a beautiful score! English for sure probably mid 1800's
