  1. Great score Rob! You'll be my go to anvil ID guy now :)
  2. Thanks :) it was actually pretty simple. There are some good tutorials on YouTube just search for "para cord handle wrap"
  3. Post some pics! :) did you do any patterning on them?
  4. I'll have to check out his work! I really like those knives. I think in going to make a few more of them :)
  5. Thanks man, I can't say I've heard of him. Not saying that I haven't seen pictures of his work but the name doesn't ring a bell.
  6. Yeah the heel is ready to go :( it's still got awesome rebound but it sucks that I can't use the hardy hole. I've been pondering the idea of having it repaired but I don't know how deep the crack goes in. Here's a better picture of the crack.
  7. Here's a little update on the bigger recurve fighter. It's almost ready for heat treating :) sorry for the crappy picture I forgot to take a picture of just that knife.
  8. Thanks Donnie, I'll give it a shot with my canola oil.
  9. Thanks Donnie, do you water quench it? I've recently forged a few blades from it and I'm not to sure if I want to water quench it or not.
  10. Nice work! I really like making those blacksmith/Viking style knives :) What kind of steel did you use?
  11. Meteorman, that's some stunning work! Thanks for posting the links :)
  12. That's to bad that your giving it up man. But, if your heart isn't in it then nothing will make it as much fun as it should be. I have some rage issues to put it lightly so I can relate to the frustration thing. I absolutely hate trying to find something locally, it's very frustrating and smokey always costs me twice as much plus a lot of list time. Instead if scrapping the forge, throw it on a local classified site. I'm sure some new smith out there is trying to source out something to make his first forge with.
  13. Hey guys, I posted this one in show me your anvil but I'd really like to get some more info on it. It's a 220 pound Attwood's anvil. The only markings on it are "ATTWOOD'S" "JP" And the hundredweight stamps. I've seen other anvils marked "Attwood storubridge improved" but nothing with the markings mine has. Any idea on the age? I did read somewhere that it may be an Australian anvil but I can't find the website again. Here are a couple pictures.
  14. I know this is an old thread but I just had to pop in and leave a comment. That anvil is really neat! I sure hope you didn't weld or modify it at all. It could be made that way. Have you found anymore information on this guy yet?
  15. If it were a mouse hole it should have the hundred weight stamps instead of pounds or did they use both?
  16. Your right that does look very similar! Thanks for the info and the cool pictures!
  17. Marcus, that's a neat Trenton you've got there. I've never seen one with such a skinny tall waist and thick horn like that.
  18. Very nice knives Stormcrow, I've always found your knives very appealing!
  19. Cool thanks Thomas! I didn't know that they made the face plate with more then one piece that's interesting. It's got the best rebound out of all my anvils. I have a bigger stump that I have to shorten for this anvil. It sits a little to high on this stump. The old fellow wouldn't throw a number out and insisted I make him an offer. The smile on his face when I offered him $100 was priceless :)
  20. Well... My wife is on holidays with the kids right now. I found a killer deal on an anvil and bought it without asking her but I had to. There's no way I could pass this one up. It's a 220 pound attwood's anvil. It had really good rebound but the face plate by the heal is broken and the heal is cracked. I got it for $100 and a sore back... Any idea on the age? By the triangle feet it should be early to mid 1800's right? I can't find much info on attwood's anvils online anywhere.
  21. Looks pretty good! Did you split the end for the eye and forge weld it or did you draw it out and wrap it around and forge weld it? I'm half way done my first Damascus bearded axe.
