  1. If i get time tonight i will post a video of me making a fire poker with a blob weld, an one that is a forge welded bundle, and one that is a faggot weld. i will explain the issues/limitations with each and the positive points. I will present it from an unbiased point of view in this discussion and will not reply after it is posted. it will simply be a conversation clairifyerJosh Joshua, that is what this thread needs, it would be fantastic. Thanks for stepping up and offering to do this!
  2. Very nice! Love thw buckeye burl.
  3. Good post, Ausfire, you hit it on the head. There is some very skilled individuals here, if we can get past the different opinions and just try what makes sense to us. Maybe at some point someone will prepare a standard for testing these welds, then maybe some of these more experienced smiths can test both or more methods and test them, and post non-biased results. Regards, Dennis
  4. Nice looking knife! I need to write that down.....sand x1,000....buff x1,000...sweat..drink...sweat...
  5. Lastronin...agreed! Brian, please give Glenn a chance, he's trying to help, plus we all want to see the photos! Thanks
  6. It's working! I usually put 1/2 cup into about 4 - 4.5 gallons, but I don't think there is any hard fact formula. Post a pic when your done! :o)
  7. Nice job, very cool! Your mom will love it.
  8. Neat tip! Thanks for sharing Frank.
  9. Thanks for the information, Thomas! Shows history of both ways, 'variety is the spice of life'!
  10. Good point Biggundr, should have added that caution on as well!
  11. Nice haul, Anthony! Not a bad price for all you got. You can cut the barrel to how tall you need it, then fill it with sand to make a good stand, but you would need to do something with the sharp edges after you cut it to size.
  12. Nice find Glen! I got heat for bringing home a hewing ax over the weekend until I explained what it was and how it was made...forged.
  13. Steve & JMC, Thanks for the great information and visual! Rich, thanks for the grin, I have a few I would like to migrate out of state! : )
  14. The article is on pg 6 attachment below. sorry for the pdf form, it is cumbersome. But there are some other handy articles to read in it as well...
  15. Admin, please move if this is not the correct location for this topic. Here is an article in our March Saltfork Craftsman newsletter. It supports what many here have stated about the effectiveness of ATF mix with Acetone, and puts a little study behind it. May save some $$ on products... Dennis 2014March.12-20.pdf
  16. I like the shape, Eggwelder. I have to use a cane, so now that I keep seeing these here, I may just do one. I know the hawk will have to be comfortable, and a hammer end would be more usefull than a spike end, all of which yours have. Thanks for showing.
  17. Nice work! Like the coloring you got out of it.
  18. Incredible pattern! The mosaic pin really sets off the handle as well. Nice!
