  1. Thanks guys It was just one of those spontaneous ideas that seem to pop up from out of nowhere
  2. A Whimiscal piece that came to mind while working on some mundane stuff Made from 1/2 " plate Sorry for the crummy photos
  3. Ribeye steaks are 8.99 per pound and within three days its usually down the toilet Price is relative
  4. WINDOWS or better yet DOORS You can enter any Door that you are qualified to enter. Now how you Qualify people to be able to enter the doors or not would be a monumental task. Most likely undoable
  5. I have four that I had Grant Sarver ( nakedanvil ) make for me. two touchmarks each in two different sizes Yesteryear Forge and M Tanner Miss that guy something awful
  6. I agree with Rich 110 % Thats the trouble with things like Wikipedia This information age is way to fast and way too inaccurate to be building experience solely based on information that is posted. You have the very real chance of newbies leading newbies thinking all along that they actually know what they are talking about.. But that is the nature of these type forums where there is no shortage of self proclaimed MASTERS , the real challenge is know which which is which. You can feed hungry people almost anything
  7. I kept a table from a large CNC milling machine that I scrapped Moved it with my sons goose neck trailer behind a 3/4 ton dodge pickup We used a 22000 lb lift truck to load it and a big john deere loader from a local sawmill to unload it It weighed 16, 874 lbs ( lifted the back wheels of the john deere loader off of the ground ) 4 feet wide X 21 feet long x 12 inches thick
  8. I have an IRON KISS and it is one fine hammer. I also looked at and asked a lot of questions of John and others from proffesional to hobbiest. Then I looked closely to how it was made ( fit and finish and quality of construction and component parts ) I am a machinist and probally examined it closer that most would. If you are in the market for a hammer you might want to add this one to your list for comparision. I think it will meet and or exceed most expectations.
  9. I thought killed steel was used to stamp out valve covers and oil pans and such as it stretches like crazy I may be wrong
  10. I have a lot of anvils with several above 400 lbs Nimba Gldaiator = 450 lbs Hay budden = 451 lbs Euroanvil = 500 lbs Brooks = 560 lbs Habermann = 500 lbs. But the one I use everyday is a Refflinghaus 1245 lb anvil on a fabricated stand made from 1 inch plate. If getting a Large anvil I would suggest A double horn style ( even on an anvil as large as mine the square horn tapers down to aproxx 1 inch wide at the tip ) That along with an upsetting block and a side shelf and you have a very versatile anvil. You can do small work on a large anvil but its not so easy to do large work on a small anvil. My demo anvil is a 220 lb Refflinghaus. In my opinion a Refflinghaus is the finest anvil produced today. Shady Grove Blacksmith Shop is the north american distributer and it may be worth your while to check them out.
  11. Most businesses that dont make it dont plan to fail , they fail to plan
  12. Its important to pay attention to the little things in life because when its all said and done sometimes they turn out to big things
  13. they only fill the tanks to 80 percent to allow for expansion
  14. I buy 1018 all the time but it is cold roll ( flat bar ,square or round ). I get decent prices but I buy an awfull lot of steel ( generally a mixture of stainless and carbon ) I have everything delivered in full lengths as most suppliers deliver twice a week. You can generally get most cold roll in either 12 or 20 foot lengths ( if you dont specify they will sell you the 20 footers )
  15. Put up a pole on your property with a faux security camera on it where they are sure to see it and point it in the direction of the neighbor It drives them nuts.
  16. Caint nobody say I caint follow instructions , besides Brian is perhaps the most efficient mover of metal that I have ever met. When experience talks I usually try to listen
