  1. My anvil is hard ( 59 rockwell ) and my 4 main forging hammers ( 1 1/2 thru 5 lbs ) are hard ( upper 50s rockwell ) If your anvil is the PROPER height for YOU and you hit it FAIR & SQUARE it should not leave any dings. That is of course if one first rules out Fatigue , too large of hammer , over zealous hammering etc.etc.etc.

  3. mtforge It appears to me that you have a good common sense grasp of the business side of this.
  4. OZ never did give nothing to the TIN MAN that he didn't allready have
  5. A few observations I changed my mind  Dont ask me how I really feel :)
  6. There were lots of them here in Virginia and other east coast states I suppose George washington operated several and you may find some info by that route. There are still remnants of them thru - out the Peidmont region of Virginia
  7. Just price it too high and you should be right in the ball park with everyone else
  8. If you forge a taper first then drill a hole and then split . Its almost finished when you split it ( just round up to suit ) and the tines are a lot easier to keep the same length.
  9. I have 2 and they are very good firepots. They offer two different styles , one square and one rectangular ,
  10. :) I must be near the bus stop because I think i'm surrounded by Bozo's sometime
  11. You would probally be better off to go with a little giant . There are several choices of new hammers out there also. Big Blue Iron Kiss an yang saymak etc. When all is said and done you may come out cheaper buying new rather that buying used for a good price and then spending as much in dollars and much more in time to get it right.
  12. Crunch All of those questions are relevant You are welcome to come visit and see it run if you would like. I'm about 50 miles west of Richmond I would say it would be close to a 25 lb little giant
  13. That fine specimen of a hammer is mine. Yes i'm tall The hammer is a small compact HEAVY hitting hammer. Its just sitting on a dirt floor If you look close at the video you can see me step on the foot pedal several times because the hammer has worked its way down into the dirt floor a little. It can be raised as high as you would like. I really didn't buy it to use a lot as I have a little giant and an iron kiss. I bought it mainly because it is a cool little hammer. All I have done to it is paint it grey and put a brand new motor on it. It was originaly designed to run from a line shaft. Even most mechanical upright power hammers are on the short side for me :)
  14. There are several people that sell them on ebay ( cast iron ) unturned Or I sell them turned out of steel. You can probally buy one already finished cheaper than getting someone to do a one off
  15. i'll be there Have about 5 anvils left ( sold around 40 on ebay so far ) couple forges / blowers / 4 or 5 large swage blocks and stands and a whole lot of misc. stuff. Got too much stuff that I dont need now and probally will never need. Usually sell right much stuff but the problem is I usually buy more than I sell. Will try to reign that in a little .
  16. annapolis96 You can contact me if you would like , I'm close by in Amelia I give beginner lessons. YESTERYEARFORGE.COM
  17. Sam I have one of each of Jymms anvils and can vouch for the outstanding Quality of both I purchased both at a hammer-in that I had here so there was no shipping involved. Of course they are a little on the light side for me :)
