  4. Welcome, with that kind of background you should be able to pick it up fairly quick. welder19
  5. I have had those days, did it ruin the part you were drilling? welder19
  6. A lot of people don't realize how important this is, a freind of mine had his house burn down a little over a year ago and he lost almost every thing, he had tons of antiques and stuff that he collected over the years (he is 74 yrs old) and he never bothered to document any of it, he lost thousands and thousands of dollars worth of stuff that the insurance co just will not cover. He had dozens of guns in 3 differant "fire proof" safes, expensive ones at that, and there isn't even hardly any remains of the guns or the safes and he will not get a dime for them, not to mention the $60,000 in cash that was in the house, because he has a business that he runs and requires having cash on hand, and they will not cover that either. You may think that it will not happen to you but it can....at any time and without warning. welder19
  7. Nice cabinet, I may just borrow your idea, I like it. welder19
  8. Also try searching on google, there is lots of info out there on home made welders, mostly arc but there is also tig and spot welders of a lot of different designs, there is a lot of info on making a arc welder out of an altinator. welder19
  9. Victor is hands down the best as far as easy to get parts, quality, and will last a life time if taken care of, they cost a little more than most but is worth the $....but that's my opinion, however it is based on years of useing all brands and still have sets that my grandfather used in his body shop (Victor). welder19
  10. Not even close....but it's dry, anything more than that is just a luxery any way. welder19
  11. Something a lot of people tend to neglect is keeping welders clean, wether it has a fan or not, once a week or so (more if your in a especially dust area) take your air hose and blow them out, the dust and such that collects inside greatly reduces the cooling which is important if you want the unit to last a long time. welder19
  12. Very nice!! Thanks for sharing, I love seeing other people's shop's and their work. welder19
  13. That's very generous of you Mike, it sounds like a good idea to make it an annuale day, maybe some day we could even get it as a paid holiday!! welder19
  14. Alaska it's self is worth the trip, I'd be living there if it were not for a stuborn other half. I'll 2nd you on the weather in these parts though, we really don't get the extreme storms and such like a lot of you in other parts of the country, but all places have their pro's and con's. welder19
  15. For anyone in the area there is a place in PA, can't remember the town, called AB Martin, they manufacture metal roofing right there and have the best prices, great to deal with and very honest, you can buy what they call seconds and they look no different than the new, atmost maybe some water stains, if they get a roll of steal that is damaged, they get a discount on itbut when it goes through the machine it straitens it out and you never know but they pass that discount onto the customer and call those seconds. It was about a 2 hour drive for me from S. Jersey and even with the cost of fuel and tolls I still saved around $150 on it verses what it would have cost me locally, plus it is a better and heavyier roofing, of coarse fuel wasn't $3.50 a gallon then either, but it may be worth looking into since you are in MD it may not be too far from you. They will make any length you want it also, unless your buying 2nds, then you get what they have. They are either Amish or Menonites (I forget) which I think is what makes them so good to deal with, and honest. welder19
  16. My dog would rather just eat cats, or any other critter that crosses her path, friendliest dog in the world, she just doesn't like other animals, 12 yr old black lab and she can still catch em. Last week she got herself a rooster, which she left me the pleasure of cleaning up. welder19
  17. Very nice Ron, Ilike it! welder19
  18. welcome!! welder19

  20. Nice work, if you can a video would be really cool. welder19
  21. congrats, wish you the best in your new venture. welder19
  22. Sheetmetal is probably the easiest way to go, the last time I bought any was a 4' x 8' 16ga and I think it was around $28. I don't know how big of a floor you need to cover, you could always just spread some sand over it . Welding isn't too bad, it's torch cutting that creates the biggest fire hazzard. welder19
  23. Welcome to the forum, sounds like your doing pretty good for 15, sorry I can't help none on the coal in your area but there are coal supplier lists that are around the web, I think there may be one on the ABANA web site, I have some links saved on my other computor, I'll try and remember to post them tomorrow. welder19
