  1. Definitly nice for a 1st blade... heck, it aint bad for a 10th knife! welder19
  2. Well flying for the winter is a great idea...if your a duck, I used to use a 5 gal. bucket which was no big deal to dump when done for the day but when I started doing bigger work I got an old wooden wine barrel and cut it in 1/2 and use one half as my slack tub, the barrel was around 70 gal give or take, so I have around 35 gal or more slack tub, so dumping it isn't really an option. I had thought about a heater but really want to keep from raising the elec. bill any, which is why I also decided against putting air from the compressor into it for bubbles. Dish soap doesn't really protect too low....I don't think any way, anybody know how low? Which is why I ended up at the rv anti-freeze, and it isn't designed for cooling purposes, just for freeze protection, plus no enviromental issues. But as I said, I'm not sure what if any affect it would have on the quench. welder19
  3. It's that time of year, I had to break about 3/4" of ice off this morning. What about RV antifreeze? Anyone tried that? Would it affect the quench? welder19

    Free lathe

Nice, I hear about these kind of happenings...but have never had the pleasure, at least not for anything like a lathe. welder19
  6. I have a waste oil burner for my casting furnace and have been working on some other designs. There are a lot of waste oil burners in the metalcasting world, but I have only heard of a handful used in forges. All of my w/o burners run on waste engine oil, just because I have access to unlimited amounts of it but waste vegitable oil is just as good if not better just because it is thinner therefore easier to atomize, but it is becomeing more popular and some places are actually starting to buy it, so it won't be long before it is not a "free" fuel any more. There is a lot of waste oil info at backyardmetalcasting.com and a lot of experience on the forum over there. Can't wait to see your pics and get some detail on it. welder19
  7. Wow!!! that is awsome!! Looks really good welder19
  8. Still trying to decide, I don't have that many to make but time is really starting to fly by, may end up running out of time, but I will still atleast get something done for my wife and daughter. welder19

  13. I don't know the percentage but it is definately pot metal which is zinc and al. But there is no standard, different manufactuer's may use different alloys. FYI die cast is not an alloy it is a process, and it is just as it sounds, molten metal (typically pot metal due to it's fluidness) is cast in a die, which is a permanent mold, it is also forced in under psi verses poured in when sand casting.
  14. No you asked where to find one, but since you don't have a welder then go to home depot or plumbing supply house and get a threaded flange, that is if your pipe has threads, if not then get one of those too, then you can thread it on your pipe and bolt it to your brake drum, you will likely have to drill holes to match but it gets you around not having a welder. welder19
