  1. That's great to hear. My kids are too busy with "important" things to spend a little time trying to do a little smithing. I do have a young grandson that is starting to show a little interest, though. :)
  2. Glad that your trip went OK. You need to contact Danger Dillon. He's in the Atlanta area. You two could probably get together to do some forgeing. :)
  3. Great work, John. I too really like the finish. Thanks for sharing the pics. :)
  4. Don, I'd say that you picked it up pretty well. That is a nice looking knife. Thanks for sharing. :)
  5. My tire hammer used to rock back and forth for me, until I counter-balanced the tire rim with about 7 pounds of lead. That took the rock out of it. :)
  6. Josh, I had to chuckle when I read this. Not because it is really funny, but rather because I have also had days like that. That's when it's time to go fishing for a bit. :D
  7. Thanks Derek. Bush Bugger, I made my own ladle swage out of an end cap that gets welded onto the end of 3" black pipe. Just welded it to a piece of angle iron and clamp it in the vice. Works great. I also made a serving spoon swage that I cut out of the heel of a 3" black elbow and welded it to a piece of angle, also. :)
  8. Welcome back, Mr Smith. Glad that you finally got the time to get back on the site. Hope that you can also get back to forgeing. :)
  9. Welcome to IFI and to the addiction. It really does become an addiction, ya know. This site is great, with a lot of great info and a lot of great smiths. If you run into a problem or have a question, search the forum. But if you don't find your answer or solution, then post your question. You will get several answers and a lot of help. Again, welcome to IFI. Oh.... and don't forget to post pics of your progress. We like pics. :D
  10. Hey Wes, you need another anvil, or six!! :D
  11. I just completed the biggest single order that I have taken on in my shop. Normally, folks order a couple of things at a time. Well this order consisted of a double set of camp gear for two guys that are brothers. Here are some pix of what I made for them. 2 Serving forks, 2 Ladles, 2 Spatulas 2 Steak turners, 2 squirrel/chicken cookers 2 fire grates each with 4 stick in the ground legs 2 tent stake pullers, 4 teepee pole lantern holders/hooks, 8 4" S-hooks 40 18" tent stakes, 2 3pc fire iron sets(Can be set up as tripods) Total order came to almost $550.00. As I said, the largest single order for me, to date. Not too bad for a hobby. I'm gonna suggest a couple of more items, like fire pokers and wash basin stands. :)
  12. Nice job, Don. For a first set of tongs, you did a very good job. Now that you have the idea, try again to make another set without welding pieces together. These should last a long long time. Thanks for sharing. :)
  13. That's a great tip, Naz. I have had similar situations in the past and now I know how to solve the problem. Thank you for posting it. :)
  14. I've seen that same buckle on ebay several times, lately. Don't remember what it went for, though. <_<
  15. WOW!! I love the way they look. That brass finish really sets them off. Thanks for sharing, John. :)
  16. Now that is a cool looking hawk!! Thanks for posting it, Grant. :)
  17. Basher, you really have been putting in some time at the forge. Great looking work. Thanks for sharing it with us. :)
  18. Good job, Basher. Those look great! I really like the finish on them, as well. Thanks for sharing. :)
  19. I think it would make a nice skinner. I like it. :)
  20. Nice looking knife, James. I like it. Thank you for sharing. :)
  21. OK, Don. Now that you did all the research work for me Would you mind sharing how you got it all set up? I was checking on O/A bottles, the other day, and walked away talking to myself. I can't really justify the price for what I do. I don't need a torch very often. But when you need one, you need one now. Thanks in advance for any guidance that you can give. :)
  22. You absolutely amaze me with your hawks. I can only dream of making them as nice as you do. Thanks for posting and keep up the great work. :)
  23. Nice haul. I made a few hardy cut offs with jack hammer bits. They work very well. :)
  24. Very nice work, Marek. Welcome to IFI. It looks as though you are well on your way in blacksmithing. Thank you for sharing your work with us. :)
