  1. Pipe dope or something similar that is non drying more likely, silicone would be about impossible to get apart later on a large surface area like that. Rob
  2. No, It will never get hot enough to melt the zinc. Rob
  3. I second what Phil said. There are many things you can do with those, assuming they are not to big. Slack tub, quench tank for oil, coal storage, metal storage for hot scraps etc etc..... Rob
  4. I recommend the sand method, I would not try to roll it for fear of collapse on such a tight radius. Rob
  5. That is better than what I do, two round pins adjustable for different openings. time for an upgrade Thank you. Rob
  6. Congrats on the new hammer. Sorry I missed you at Octoberfest, to much going on here at the present. Rob
  7. Beer and wine making store should have it. Rob
  8. The wood pulley would have a metal cap on at least one end and either keyed or welded to shaft, If I was to make it. Also you will get more contact on your belt if you run the idle pulley on the outside of the belt. May give you better power transmission due to less slippage. Rob
  9. Make one out of wood. A holesaw and some plywood works well, I like 1 1/8 thick and each disc has a center hole to pilot your bore size drill. Remember holesaws are sized for the hole not the disc so you should get something like 2 5/8 or 2 3/4 to end up near the 2 1/2 you want. Also important to have idle pulley on the non driven or slack side as stated earlier. Rob
  10. It looks like the style of the peter wright vices that I have. Mine are steel though. Rob
  11. Shouldn't that be assy? Or is that another word like donkey? :P
  12. It is good you went with the jack shaft instead of DC. DC looses HP as the speed drops. I also did not see the cooling water pipe going to the new motor on your drill press, it says "STREAM COOLED" so you must live by a creek  Rob
  13. Two things commonly cause bandsaws to not cut straight. first is a dull blade and second is blade guides out of adjustment. I check and adjust saw by cutting a piece of 2" sq tube, it is big enough to see mis-alignment easily with a square. Rob
  14. Does he really want a sword or does he want you to be able to make a sword because it takes some good skills. By making it for him you are improving your skills with any real downside of pissed of customers. Rob
  15. Nathan, the IRS is the FEDERAL Gov. and not specific to California. There may be other things that differentiate our state from the "lesser 49" but blaming the IRS for that is not one of them. For a good rundown of the way our system works watch the Jesse Ventura reruns on youtube. Rob
  16. Easy, after slitting your slot re-heat the bar around the hole , stand it on end and hit it until your slot is the length you want. Rob
  17. I would say just do it and dont look back, propane is propane. If you are really worried ask your local propane dealer to be sure. Rob
  18. If your slot punch (chisel) is to long for your drift you can heat the area where your hole is and upset it to shorten your slot. That should also give you a little bit more material on each side. That will alow you to play with different length of slots without making multiple tools. Rob
  19. Cool, I did not know those machines could do that. Learned something good today, thanks. Rob
  20. You did not miss any commentary, it was all the song listed in the end credits. My only gripe is it did not show welding the pieces together but very well done. Rob
  21. One of my friends here has a wire edm in his shop and you must thread the wire through the part if you do not want to cut in from the edge. He has done some extremely tiny parts with incredible precision. The video Grant posted is very informative of the process. Near the end they show what I think smoothbore is talking about- small hole edm with a rotating pipe electrode for doing blind holes. Thanks for the video Grant. Rob
  22. Wire edm is not able to do what you are describing. Think of it as a VERY precise pattern torch. Rob
