i used to use a full face shield but now i use the skiing goggle type safety goggles...the great thing about them is that they can be on your face all day without having to take them off!! alec :)

I am not sure what the purpose of the peen to be off center is but......i love french pattern hammers (half of my nationality gives me that ) they're great for moving metal alec (the Frenchman!) B)

That's a really nice vid! in reply to spikeknife i find that for ME dribbling keeps the rhythm and you don't have to comletely stop when your thinking...that's why i do it but what is fireyfurnaces opinion on why he does it...in fact, if YOU (the person reading these words) dribble the hammer please reply and say why....it might be quite interesting...anywhoo I'm babbling so... alec

if you have an anvil with the step... you could just use that softer steel instead of doing what was said previously. my 2 cents as they say.. alec

This is the thing i did. A piece of 6mm fusioned onto a little leaf. I did a little scarf on the 6mm then applied a little bit of borax--- i made the leaf then applied borax(all borax applied hot) on the place where i wanted it to stick. then i got a tiny bit of copper wire placed it on the leaf( the borax sticking it slightly so it doesnt move) every thing back to the forge just on top of the coals till everything gets red/orange look at the leaf the copper should just have melted on the surface of the leaf then you take your 6mm and hold it on the area you want it to stick to and with tongs hold them together tightly. don't quench yet as the heat shock will be too much for the copper. once its cooled down you will have a very strong fusion! take caution when doing this because the fumes from the copper are toxic this is why i recommend doing this in a well ventilated area or under the forge hood. Sorry for some of the badly phrased stuff...... alec p.s. I am not an expert at this i have only done it because another blacksmith showed me how.......
