once i thought it wsnt true.... so, i hardened a bit of coil spring set it on the anvil and hit it with a hammer......... a huge sound as fragments hit the wall!!!!!

Please correct me if i am wrong..... but i recall someone telling me that bettween the handle and the hammer he would put silocone..... another method that i did 2 dys go is putting a bicycle inner tube in the head and then fit the handle on a hammer that i bought in france (french pattern!) that had a fiberglass handle..... i tried it and it works wonders...... the person i learnt it from said that not a great amount of the greatness of the hofi hammer is the shape / balance....... alec... sorry if this offended anyone.... i was just quoting.....

yah....... i think we should just cool it and let this thread die! it is a shame because we coulda' learnt some from others about saftey! alec ....................................

I personally think that vigilance with this sort of thing is key........... But, for us hobbyists who do this for fun and enjoyment........ if we are scared of a burning ourselves and the like; thus causing us to get too hot and sweaty in thick boiler suits with safety goggles under a face shield with a welding gauntlet on both hands............ ARE WE GOING TO ENJOY IT SOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH? NO Now............ I am not saying that ppe is a bad thing in any way....... i am just saying... WE ALL HAVE A BRAIN....... so we jolly well might use it once in a while ie. placing possible hot metal somewhere safe, always wearing safety spectacles (ALWAYS it is a must in the work place) personally.... i have a THIN leather glove on my left hand that i can quickly shrug off... also, safety goggles. http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PID=138320 ....... these were the ones i used, untill today when i melted them ............ ( i stopped work immediately........ this was because the only eye protection i had did not fit me well...... causing a safety hazard!) i also usually wear a tuff pair of trousers and a t-shirt..... hot sparks burning you are inevitable...... as with small burns from metal...... this, as smiths is something we deal with every time we light up!........so....... be comfortable in what you wear, BUT be responsible for your self ! sorry if NONE of that made sense! alec :D

Here is my second praying man...The attachments to the base were done by drilling a 5mm (5/16 to you) hole in the legs and the base...I then got some 5mm round, cut it off at about an inch and 1/2 and inserted the two into their designated holes.......after a while of tricky maneuvering around the anvil and vice....i managed to rivet the top......at the bottom of the base... i had countersunk the holes.then, i cut off the rod at the base so it was flush with the base and, welded at high amperage in the countersunk hole that had the rod in....then it was a job for the new angle grinder to make it pretty.... after 5 mins with a flap disc and 2 on the wire wheel........ this was left ! p.s. sorry if my explanation didn't seem easy to understand ! alec
