  2. My whole profile was lost so now it is a different one, hence the name change... alec
  3. i've used it its alright but its quite dusty it makes lots of sparks that are hot and jump out of the fire amd then manage to get in to that tiny hole in your glove! big flame, small so the blower blows it away. but as they say "thats my 2 cents" alec
  4. @sam tompson. it might be a good idea to put your location in(i am mainly saying this because i would like to know where bengrys is) because i don't even know if your in england!! haha (that wasn't funny i know but oh well) alec
  5. Sorry, i don't have the measurements on me at the moment. alec
  6. I'm sorry but which one was the real one because they both look like it! alec
  7. After buying my first piece of steel bar i looked in the scrap box and took some. Funnily enough my new anvil is the perfect size!
  8. Though i have not done this wouldn't it be possible to drill a little dip just so that the drill wouldn't wonder so much then put it at the angle required and drill it.?? alec
  9. I know none of you guys are near here in norfolk but there is a very good coke/coal/anthracite supplier just north of Norwich the place is called Egmores' all the blacksmiths i know of in norfolk use them. 1 bag of 25kg coke runs at around £15. good stuff. alec P.s. also good to here from some fellow brits once in a while. No offense there ;)
  10. I know its a little late to say but you couldv'e used a piece of "C" channel bar. i've done that on mine with a bit of scrap c channel and it fitted perfectly ( lucky me) any way you are right a bigger hammer does solve problems easier haha alec
  11. That seems like it's going to be very interesting. Can't wait to see! :D
  12. sorry i forgot to say i put it back in the fire then tried to forge weld it.....oops
  13. side blast. but i don't mind it not working with flux it saves me money! so what were Your strange happenings in the forge?
  14. What i did was take it out the fire at orange heat(after folding), wire brushed then applied borax and let it melt in to the seams slightly....then i tried to forge weld it not to hard not too soft! ( with flux ) when i did it without flux i just left out the the flux. alec
  15. Hi where exactly are you in the uk. There may be people quite near you. alec glass and metal..... thats some great work!! B)
  16. hi two days ago i was in my forge and i couldn't think what to do/make so i decided to practice some forge welding. After a long time of trying to get borax( because i'm in the uk) i tried to use it i folded over a piece of steel, wire brushed then i put borax on at red heat............And funnily enough it didn't weld i tried again 3 more times but it still didn't work. BUT when i tried it without borax it welded perfectly well. well that's my strange happening of the week.....whats yours?
  17. Persanally i wouldnt use charcoal because of the sparks, expense and size. I use coke. go to your profile and enter your location. Because there might be a blacksmith from here right around the corner who can tell you where he gets his coal. sorry for not answering your question.....I just thought this at least would be helpful alec
