  1. I found a good use for election sign metal. I made some basket twist Christmas ornaments out of it. Ill have to get some pics on here to show you guys.
  2. i made mine out of a car spring. I just used a hack saw and a triangle file to shape the touchmark i had made.
  3. I also have a mousehole but it is pre 1820 because it does not have a pritchel hole.
  4. Well i finally made a touchmark i made it myself out of a coil spring. The mark is my initials JKH where the K and H are stacked. I haven't heat treated it yet but it seems to work well enough for now.
  5. Here is a pic of my current blower. It is an electric blower i have converted to a hand crank by using bicycle parts. I used the largest sprocket and the smallest sprocket off of a 10 speed and a 15 speed mountain bike. I did not count the teeth on the larger sprockets but the small ones are 12t i think. The pics i attached is the first version i had found that using the small sprocket on the crank was not small enuff and had to change out from a 20t "give or take" to a 12t to get the right ratio for me.The blower handles coal well. Note the small sprockets i had to take apart the rear cassettes and fabricated what i needed from junk i had laying around

    Show me your vise

Here are my vises i finaly got one about 4-5 months ago and another one last month. The vise on the stand is 4.5in and about 40-50 lbs give or take. The large vise leaning up against the stand is a 7" and about 130-140lbs give or take but i need to make a spring and a mount for it.
  7. I have heard that you possibly could get charged with terrorism if you are caught with messing with intact rail and its hardware. I would talk to everyone and make sure you know exactly who owns it and have written permission and phone numbers before any rail and hardware was taken. good luck on the rail :)
  8. Here is my old setup its a blower out of a bowling ally they use to dry your hands when bowling. i just screwed the 2" pipe inside the outlet of the blower and tacked welded it so it didnt fall off.The next time i go to use this blower im going to use an airgate instead of a damper. (i know the pipe is galvanized and not recommended to use)
  9. My favorite hammer is my craftsman 40oz crosspein i have others that i use, a 6lb mini sledge and a cheapo 3lb crosspein converted to a rounding hammer. I do plan on making my own hammer in the future not sure what i want to make yet tho.

  15. I made a curved hot cut with a tapered shank last year and i like it. i havent cut anything big with it yet 1/2" i think is the biggest it does cut way faster than my straight edged hot cut. Thank you Brian for the idea :)
  16. im a ppe nut and try very hard to wear my safety glasses and apron when ever i forge. i normally get a painful reminder if i dont remember to wear ppe. :( Thank you everyone for the tips ill try to remeber them for the next time i demo. :)
  17. Thank you. We had a tent set up for selling items and a raffle. I didnt think of having a small table to set freshly made items on to show everyone thats a good idea :). I will have to remember that for the next time i demo.
  18. Over the last weekend I had demonstrated at the Apple Butter festival in Burton,Ohio with the Western Reserve Artisan Blacksmith Association. I had a blast! I got to use the historical forge with a big set of bellows :) (no pics of that sorry :( ). I dont have any pics of what i had made but i do have some of me forging on the outside forge. I kept it simple with s-hooks and other styles of wall, and drive in hooks. then came the RR spike Knives made 4, sold everyone while they were still warm :). I am going to try to demo as much as i can next year i had alot of fun :)

  20. I had to make a new base for my anvil i went with 4x4s bolted together. It seems to be more solid than the old stump i had before which was maple i think.
  21. some hairdryers have a switch to turn the heat off. You could disable the heat by take the heating element out but im not sure how to do that and still have a working hairdryer
  22. Azur when useing a hairdryer you need to disable the heating element so the hairdryer does not overheat
  23. VaughnT "Why not make the working bit out of a large bolt." lol a new meaning to bolt tongs
