  1. its kind of a rough drawing but its based on a rivet forge blower the one that has a lever you pump and the flat belt blower assembly the idea i had was that you could use an old crakshaft or make your own shaft for the flywheel and drive pully assembly use an old flywheel and a recoil starter with a return spring so you can pump the lever to drive the mechinizm

  4. ok that is like my 2nd time welding in my forge i tryed to get it to sparking heat and that might be my problem

  6. you might be a black smith if... you use baling twine and or wire for alot more than just baling hay:)

  8. i was working on a tamahawk head out of a file i think i had gotten it to weld it just a wrap around with no bit and i had it crack i was wondering if file steel is kinda brittle to forge or if it needs to be at a certin temp to forge? i got pics ill get them posted in abit
  9. ok sounds good except i dont have a chop saw but do have a handled hot cut ill try that

  11. the dies i can get are about 1/2in thick and about 10 or 12in round and are about 4-5pounds

  13. ok thanks for the feedback i work in plastic extrusion and the old dies we use is h13 so ill pry have to torch cut them up to forge out. Would that effect the steel quality at all?
  14. has anyone forged h13 steel? i might have a supply of it and was wondering if it could be forged i want to make a slitter and drifts out of it
  15. go to your local antique power equipment club they might have something to fix flat belts with all the old threshers and hammer mills that use flat belts they might have some scraps
  16. i just take 2 peices of whatever size stock i have at the moment thats about 18-20ins long i forge out my jaws refine the hinge areas and bolt or rivet together the larger pair of tong i made that way i think with 58 stock i had
  17. have you been to the hartville flea market? pkrankow they usaly have a good selction of old tools and such but i think they are closed now
  18. ok i need to make a deeper firepot anyway i might just do that then
