  2. The Complete Modern Blacksmith by Alexander G. Weygers ISBN# 0-89815-896-6 300pgs well i like this book it was my first one i have learned alot about forging the book shows you basic forging techneaks to making your own woodworking and stone mason tools to art decorations etc. i think it is a book worth looking into:)
  3. does anyone have any good sugestions on differnt books on blacksmithing? i have The Complete Modern Blacksmith by Alexander G. Weygers and The Complete Bladesmith by Jim Hrisoulas i think both books have good info in them especiely The complete modern blacksmith for smiths starting out :)
  4. lol i work in plastic extrusion as well i make 3.5" vertical blinds and the 2" horizontal blinds aswell benn doing it for bout 4 an a half years now
  5. i have always wondered about coke for a forge is it better than coal more expensive what are the drawbacks? and how hard is it to get i live near akron,ohio

  9. nice is that stick or mig welding to me it looks like mig just a hit try upping your wire speed just a hair or go alittle slower but looks good:) as long as it holds it a good weld:) nicely done:)

    hey im new to this forum just signed up 3 days ago i think im from ohio i have been forging since i was 14-15 im 26 now just lookin for other people to talk about forging with:)
  12. yep agreed nice forge my brother and i use a chunk of I-beam for an anvil for the longest time it worked good but you need to ankor it down good becuse they tend to jump about

  14. no i usely go to church's coal and firewood on tripplett ave behind the blimp hanger its not nugget coal so you have to break it up yourself the last time i got some was about 2 years ago it was 8 or 9 dollars a 100# sack i think
  15. i have a brake drum forge i use myself and i have used kingford match lite i think it was didn have much problem but i whent thru a hole bag in about an hour i also use coal dont know what kind it is i get mine from akron oh. i think i drilled a bunch of 3/8" holes for my the grate in the bottom and that works out for me i had drilled 1/8" holes and found that they were to small
  16. or if you have a junk yard nearby a heater blower out of an old truck will work good need a 12v batter tho i have one i got out of a 1960s model chevy c60 truck i put a piece of tin over the back cut out holes for the squirel cage and where i slid it on the forge pipe and wala got a blower
  17. lol i know the fealing i have had some gashes before didnt notice till i saw the blood trail duck tape is good for everything :)
  18. well my name is james and i have an adiction it started with and old forge i found in my parents machine shed when i was 14 with some old coal i got it fired up then i built my own out of a car rim and brake drum and an anvil made out of a piece of I beam now im 26 and still forgeing with a real anvil now i think its a 120#er but not sure
