September 23, 20232 yr Outstanding on the wrought iron find for sure. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
September 23, 20232 yr Humm I read it as WI... even if it's W1 tool steel, still a heck of a find. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus If I remember right a ball park figure for W1 is $1.50-$2.00 per pound.
September 23, 20232 yr Shucks... What diameter is it? I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
September 23, 20232 yr 3/4” diameter x 36” long. Putting them away, I find that I have 75 of them. Also, underneath the top layer, there were two pieces of 5/64” x 2” x 18” O-1, which was a pleasant surprise.
September 24, 20232 yr Nice score John! My happy score of the day was some nice large Portabella mushroom caps at the local store. Mmmmmm! Frosty The Lucky.
September 24, 20232 yr That amount of tool steel, irrespective of alloy, at that price is a xxxxxxx score. Edited September 24, 20232 yr by Mod30 Language
September 25, 20232 yr I found a bunch of cut nails at the junk shop, probably wasn't worth the gasoline getting there. Had to buy something. Maybe I can re-sell them as "coffin nails" and make some money. That makes them have mystical powers, so I hear on the internet. Or make a porkupine sculpture.
September 25, 20232 yr They make good mini swords for the kids at demos. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
September 25, 20232 yr I thought of that but I don't do demo's (sigh) and my nephews are to old for them. A lot of people make jewelry out of them.
September 25, 20232 yr I have seen cut nails use to make wall hooks. Flatten thye head and punch or drill a hole for mounting and bend the point into a hook. IMO the larger the nail the better the hook. I make mini swords out of double headed nails for kids. I will have kids come up to the booth and say "Do you have anything for a dollar?" which is what their parents hav given them. I will sell them a mini sword for 50 cents or a dollar. In fact I have sign on the mini swords that says "$1 for tose 12 and under, $2.50 for those older." "By hammer and hand all arts do stand."
September 26, 20232 yr What do you use that level dry lube for John? Does it get on EVERYTHING like graphite? Frosty The Lucky.
September 27, 20232 yr Yep, just like or worse than graphite. I use it in cartridge reloading, a super good lube though. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
September 27, 20232 yr Planning to make some Hofi-style punch lube: two soup spoons each of MoS₂ and graphite + enough dish soap to make a paste + enough water to make a pint.

September 27, 20232 yr Pretty much everything on the spice rack is carbon-based, though. (Apart from the salt, of course.)
September 30, 20232 yr Followed me home from my trip to France. The title translates to "Gaulish metallic objects from the Lacoste site". Quite similar to the Mastermyr chest find, but much larger. And some flint from the Perigord region. The stuff is everywhere.
