Lol, for some reason this reminded me of when I was trying to learn airbrushing in my 20's and did a lot of dragons so I dug out my old artwork and had a look-see. Not much survived the years and life thus far.... a lot lost and ruined along the way. I'll have to compare asian and european dragons. Humanoid body would be good. Lots of sharp teeth? Daswulf
Yup some forge time will make the teeth go quicker than just cutting and grinding. I'll probably use rebar for the teeth. I tried airbrush a little but never got serious with it.
Scott NC
I used rebar for bird talons and just forged a point on them. Touch up with a grinder. Less work than fangs though. I remember some claws you forged but wonder what you ever used them for.
Daswulf
That's a big bird with talons that size. Um. I can't recall what I forged claws for. I'm sure something. The alligator wood burner maybe? Probably something else too. I know the alligator teeth took some time grinding for the size of starting stock. Think those were rebar too. Scott NC
Yeah, I think you suggested I name it "Bill"..... Probably was the alligator.

Daswulf
Mine as well. We can only hope we inspired. Pretty sure you will be fondly thought of. Anyway lets live while we live. ζούμε όσο ζούμε
LarryFahnoe
Aric lots of fun to go back over the progression on your Beastie. Encouraging too to think about how some projects wind up taking a looong time to come to life! Years back I started on a photographer...someday, parts of his head live in a box and his camera keeps an eye on me. I think your experiments with the muzzle/jaw area are moving in interesting directions, will certainly look forward to seeing how it unfurls itself! --Larry
Frosty
Dum vivimus vivamus (While I live let me LIVE!) R. A. Heinlein, "Glory Road". In the book he described his navy dress sword as Lady Vivimus. "Glory Road" is one of if not my favorite Heinlein novel and I've read them all many times. Anyway, it's as good a motto as I know of. Frosty The Lucky. Daswulf
Thanks Larry, I look forward to it as well haha. I have other projects that live in boxes as well. They are just waiting on the right time. Sometimes that is years from now. I keep moving this guy around and I just Have to see what he becomes. Frosty, that is a great motto. I will have to read that book one day when I have some peaceful time to sit back and read. As it goes now I can't even keep up reading here. Sometimes I even get distracted in the middle of a reply and have to get back to it later.
Scott NC
I guess Beastie is an evolving thing. Sometimes slow is much better than hasty. I am still facinated with his horns but haven't found any hood hinges that look like that. Do I see your magnetic plate holding things together or what? Daswulf
Yeah it is an evolving thing. The hood hinges are from more modern subaru models like crosstrek or outback. I have some more and save the junk ones when they get replaced. Yup that's the magnetic chuck. I am pretty happy with it so far. I'd like to incorperate it into the welding table but want to use it a bit more to be sure how i want it before I commit to anything. Frosty
Giminy, so much for my keen observational skills, I didn't pick up on your magnetic chuck at all. <sigh> That does however the voices suggesting you take a couple pics of the beastie doing hand(?) stands on it. Daswulf
The mad goad continued some tonight. I'm not happy with some earlier symmetry issues that I cant fix now but I will live with it. I really need to add the other teeth next round to see how it looks with them. It needs them bad. Tonight I wanted to flesh out the skull and just went with what I was doing. Think he will get sort of mohawk spikes when it is all said and done. Added a beefier spring for the neck and it might need a helper spring inside that to account for the weight. Was going to go with ball bearing eyes but I've decided on red LED lights and lenses. Anyway, just wanted to share and say it is still getting worked on here and there. LarryFahnoe
Aric, Beastie is coming along nicely & looks like you're having fun with it! Seeing it from the side makes me wonder if you might consider doing something with the mounting holes/surfaces of the horns? They look so good from the front view, but it is a little disconcerting to then see that from the side, yup, these are auto parts. Possible to slice the flange portion off with a bandsaw? Just thoughts from the peanut gallery! --Larry
Daswulf
Thanks Larry. Yeah that is something I'm planning to address. I'm leaving them for now as they arent In the way of the work. That is the plan. Opinions always welcome.
Scott NC
Thanks for sharing your progress, I enjoy seeing it take shape. I think your red led and lense for eyes will be perfect. I have had an idea but never tried of having a backlit ball bearing eyeballs that appear to "float" around in the eye socket. Or bulging out. Someday..... Keep up the good work. Daswulf
Thanks Rojo. I am going for creepy with this. Just something that needs out and sorry I take so long with it. Frosty, I've not been called creepy but I wouldnt be offended. I do tend to like "some" creepy stuff. Not evil but different and considered creepy or weird, strange. Like cryptids and such. Daswulf
Tacked on some bolts to see the mohawk idea. I think I like it. Of course it has to be more dragon like with the nose horns.
Tommie Hockett
Dude that is flippin awesome! At first I thought you were making a Jacob's sheep head, but with the addition of the Mohawk I see the dragon!
