I rode over to Lorelei's shop last spring. It was a nice day for a motorcycle ride. Altough she is a busy person she took the time to talk with me and she showed me around her shop and the lighting project she was working on as well. Between the ride and the visit it was probably one of my best days last year.

I have to agree with all, this is my first book recommended by some folks at the Memphis Metal Museum. I carry it around almost like a Bible and it has helped me a lot. I would highly recommend this book to anyone starting out, a great help.

I had been interested in learning blacksmithing before I got around to attending a weekend class at John Campbell, but before I ever attended a class or picked up a cross pein I ordered this book and read it cover-to-cover. When I finally made it up to the class and was able to consisantly start/bank my fire, draw out and upset, put a reverse twist on a hay hook I made and use the hot-cut hardy correctly, all in first morning, the instructor found it hard to beleive that I had never banged iron before. When I told him I had read her book before coming up, he smiled and nodded his head and said "Well, that 'splains it!".

While I have read the book from the library, I haven't bought it simply because I have too many how-to books that cover the same thing already. However, the pictures are very clear and explainations are well written. There are some good descriptions of projects in the back of the book as well. If I was able to, I would buy this book over some of the other "how-to blacksmith" ones I purchased before this one came out. One day there will be more funds in the bank and I can purchase this book to round out the collection.

i just bought this book last week. i am new to blacksmithing and so i have been reading/watching everything i can. i was lucky because i was able to buy this book at Half Price Books store. if you have one of these around you go and check them out. anyways i think i took two days to read this book and loved it. the descriptions and the pictures are outstanding. i love the fact that she has some projects in the book that goes from beginner onwards. i love the door pull. i am going to be building a storage/shop building and i plan to try and make these door pulls for the building. i have a couple other books that i have been able to find and so far i like this book the best. for a beginner smith i think it should be a mandatory book.
for those who are interested Lorelei has a website, you can buy the book from her at this site. the web site is.
