  1. Sad news indeed. Thoughts and Prayers from all of us at FireHouse Ironworks and the Cape Breton Blacksmiths Association. Never got a chance to meet the man in person just on the phone and via email. Always very helpful and a wealth of information. He will be missed. RIP Grant.
  2. Hello Ontario ! Stop by the shop if any of you are down this way Slainte' Grant
  3. Thoughts and Prayers for you and your family from all of us in the Cape Breton Blacksmiths Association and the guys at FireHouse Ironworks Warmest Regards Grant Haverstock President CBBA
  4. I spoke with Mark via e-mail and Volume 3 is under way. :)
  5. I have a Chile Tabasco and I love it. Hope everything works out for you.
  6. Hello All, Well we are up and running. The CBBA is alive. Check out our site. www.cbblacksmiths.com We are a non-profit group operating in Nova Scotia, Canada. We are a registered affiliate of ABANA. Thanks
  7. Iam a fan of the sculpt nouveau products also. it's a great site with lots of info on patinas for ferrous and non-ferrous metals. They have a bunch of vids on you tube also.
  8. When I was working way up North all the gear came in Sea cans that were made from Cor-Ten steel. Some were damaged and we weren't allowed to weld on them without the proper rods or Cor-Ten steel for patching. Apparently as it was explained to me is that it is designed to rust to form a protective natural coating and then the rust stops. And as someone else mentioned there is copper in the mix. That's all I have on that.. :)
  9. I would imagine your shop has a panel with breakers in it ? If it is the older square D box with fuses you should upgrade anyway. Do you know how many amp service you have now ? There may not be room in the panel. Lots to consider here. If we had a little more info we can point ya in the right direction.
  10. Miller Syncrowave 200, I have one, it works awesome, no complaints. It's a Tig and a Stick machine. Worth checking out but may be a bit pricey for what your looking for. If you are just doing light fab, The tombstone buzz box is a good deal, Lincoln. The thunderbolt is not a bad machine either it just runs out of juice when higher amps are required.
  11. Thank-you for the video John. I have only recently been exposed to power hammers and still have some trepidation and a pile of respect running one. Is the spring swage hot cut a regular piece of tooling that you would have if you had a hammer ? If indeed that's the correct name for it. Thanks again.
  12. Nice hammer. So Brent if your out there I'll pay the $21.05 shipping.....
  13. Anyone in colder climes may want to try this. Some may think I am crazy, well there's a little of that too. I wrapped my anvil with a battery blanket. it's a great little unit that I have wrapped around the base and it plugs into household power. Now I guess I should add the disclaimer, Using something for which it was not designed is crazy etc etc. All I know is it works and haven't had any problems. Enjoy.
  14. As someone mentioned go to Centaur Forge online and click on forges and then look through all those pages. There's pics of firepots, clinker breakers etc etc. A visual is always a good help for design. My set up is the Centaur Forge HD Coke firepot, clinker breaker, ash dump etc etc. Myself personally I don't see the use in a deep firepot, 3.5"-4" is plenty for what I do. Why burn extra fuel if you don't have too.
  15. Hi Dirt, Perhaps if you tell us what your application is someone can point you in the right direction.
  16. Nice set up. Over here you would probably have to have an engineered drawing to build it and 5 permits and ND testing certificates, flaggers, riggers, a crane operator with an "A" ticket and a reference letter from God to use that on a job site. Yes, nice gates indeed.
  17. Thanks for the link to your site Matt, very cool.
  18. All that it takes is a breeze of 5 mph to be blowing across the puddle to remove shield gas and create porosity.
