What did you do in the shop today?
Really nice stuff. It all looks great! I hope to find the time to do the course someday.

Grinding Room
My shop is well ventilated. Nothing special just crosswind but at the end of the grinding session I take the time to blow the shop out. I also have a big floor fan running to help. The grinder is near the overhead door so it's an easy clean up.

I may have made a mistake
It's tough when we realize we have limitations that maybe we didn't use to have. I myself know how you feel. I've had quite a few things pop up in the last year that I'm dealing with. It's good you quit when you did. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate.

Thanks! No blue i had a typo. The wood and leather is just a couple leather STROPS (not stops). I picked the worst pic to share haha.

Replacing a base
Just winging it here, no idea if it would work but what about building a sandbox base and placing it on top? I would think once the sand is packed down enough it could be relatively stable. Could probably weld a shaft of sorts right in the center to get more weight and depth.

Smalls Projects for Sale
If it were me I'd go with a theme. BBQ tools all made from RR spikes. Find a source for those and get down every blacksmiths twist you can for the handles. I would BLO all BUT the parts that contact food, for that just a super light coat of olive oil or the like. I would also get a bunch of corks like from an antique shop and cork all the pointy ends. (Meat turners, 2 pronged forks) figure out a price per and offer 3 for a bit less. Since they'd all be RR spikes the customer could mix and match whatever 3 tools they wanted. For Meat turners they're left or right handed depending on the way the hook points so you'd have to label them. Id also put a print out of care instructions for the tools. Hand wash only, hand dry and coat with food safe oil. Other than that I have a business card holder I made from a RR spike awhile ago that would also fit the theme I'll take a pic later. If there's still space you can't go wrong with plain old S hooks. Oh and a hole with a leather strap at the end is a nice touch too.

Budget forge success
Really nice! That's dedication! The one thing you said tho about the burners...you should be able to run just one if you wanted. Save on propane. I would think one getting that hot has something to do with how it set up.

Bluerooster if you have any questions feel free to msg me. Like Frosty said the 50/50 ATF/Acetone mix is king and I wouldn't remove the gears. Movie001.mp4

Anybody know these markings?
There really should be a touchmark registry somewhere. Would that be possible? An IFI thread just 1 pic of it with a name and city state? Just a thought. Would be neat for future IFIers or anyone for that matter to look that up.

Where’s Scott?
You just made me think, man I want to be on a fishing expedition off the coast of Papua New Guinea. In all seriousness though I heard he took a position as Frosty's social media editor/sensitivity manager. Apparently a grueling full time job...

Cool find. How's the blower run?

Flux resistant forge liner?
I use the kiln shelving. It's kind of expensive in my opinion and you'll probably have to cut it to size but it holds up much better than anything else I've tried.

Forge Welding resist
I recently watched a video where the smith forge welded a socket on a cold mandrel and I've forge welded wrapped axe eyes with a mandrel in place. Maybe the heat sink isn't as significant as one would think. Coal dust sure can't hurt.

Show me your anvil
Nice anvil. I sold a 308lb PW last year for $800 in NY so I would guess he should get something north of that. I had it for sale for quite awhile though.
