Finally got some time in the shop. Farm projects and chores, housework and other obligations are kind of piling up. But finally got time to work on my anvil stand. My husband started it two days ago. I finally got to help today. I'm covered head to toe with black stuff and it's nice to feel like I'm doing something. Can't hardly wait to get it done so I can finally use my new anvil!

He's an impressive creature! I'm not surprised he took champion of champions. Congratulations on a well deserved prize

I hear you. Same way around here. I've bought most of my tongs. I need some to hold bigger stock though. I don't know if my skills are up to making very good ones. I was thinking of getting some quick tongs. Cheap enough and still require some work on my end.

Awesome thank you. I want to make knives one day, but that'll come when my skills are better. The first thing everyone wants to know when they find out I smith is if I can make them a knife. I'll learn more before I do. Nice work

That's what I was thinking is it's really big for a farrier's anvil. It looks great though

What Thomas said. Look on craigslist. My son found a craftsman with a cart, tank, extra welding tips, grinding goggles, gloves and wire. Oh and a hood that was missing the glass. Hadn't been used much. The guy just didn't want to weld anymore. US $180

Thank you Chris, I appreciate that more than you know. I just try to stay away from all the personal stuff here to not bring anyone else down. I'm one of those people that try to stay busy. Keeps my mind occupied. Blacksmithing is one thing I do that is not a necessity. It's purely for my enjoyment, and I didn't realize how much I've limited my enjoyment of it because of the events of my life. Thanks for letting me talk about things everyone. I just really was proud of my new anvil. I still can't believe it's mine

I like the shape of the anvil. I've not heard of them either and I just got done looking at a lot of anvils lately. You'll have to take pictures and let us know how it is when you get to forging on it.

Thank you guys for the prayers and warm thoughts and ideas. I truly appreciate it. I didn't realize the purchase of an anvil could be such an emotional thing. I have a hard time smithing sometimes because I feel like I'm doing something wrong. Like I shouldn't be enjoying something so much without them. My son that I speak about on here is their father. Spending time with him in the shop is precious as well. Billy Bones, thank you for sharing that story. I hope your grandson cherishes the history of your family as much as you do. Sorry to be such a bummer. One of those days. I'll try to be much lighter in tone. I'm excited about my anvil. Now I need the time to build a stand for it and get to know it a lot better
