Well they are sold out at the moment. We prefer to buy local as well. For my steak flippers I’ve been wiping down with bacon grease and baking at 475 till they stop smoking. That seasons them very nice and they are not sticky. Basically same as I do for my cast iron pans. I’ll keep my eyes out for bees wax and continue to use the BLO for the non cookware till then. Though people are liking the painted coat hooks. Today I’ll have to shovel a path to the smithy. We’ve had over 2’ of snow in the last few days. Got over a 40 hour week in the last 3 days plowing and more snow coming Thursday- Monday.

I did apply some blo hot after the pics. Need to round up some bees wax. I need to make another wood hammer. Mine walked off last summer.

Thank you cgl The pin slides nice but I think in use the twist would keep it from shifting. Was super simple to make. I’m not sure I like the termination but I wanted it to be snag proof. The knife works very well for chopping.

Today I tried a twisted wire brooch. Idk if I like it but was able to do most the work cold. Also made my 3rd completed knife for the misses. She loves it.

Good day in the shop today. Made my first brooch. Did a pair of curve bill tongs for small round stock that’s a pain to pick up out of the forge. 24th pair And a new soft hammer. 4.20 lbs for my struck tools

We’ve been having a warm spell lately. Been forging in my T-shirt. Was 41 today. Got 5-13” of snow coming Friday. Better than last month when it was 20 in the smithy had to keep my coffee on the forge

My gmc was doing that same thing. Installed a new body ground and it’s great now

Yes it’s grade 8. It works well for small stuff but your right. It tends to want to spread on heavier stuff. I’ll keep this in mind on the next build. With the 3/8 bar it was faster than hardy hot cut. I’m thinking next one should be 1/2” bolt and like you said deeper so it holds its self straight with more support. You must be getting to know me well assuming I’m planning to build another. This is just version 1.0. The blade holds up good just keeping the angle the blade was worn at. I’m wondering if there is a edge angle I should be looking for. I’d like to be able to cut the leaf spring easily and faster than hot cut cause really if it’s not faster than it’s a waste of time

Decided to play with my narb today. Plugged 3 holes and it worked very well. So I insulated the forge and rigidized it. Waiting for kastolite to show up and I’ll get it finished up. Had 21 holes and 19 after plugging 3. Tried plugging 2 and it did burp a few times. With 3 plugged it was stable down to 5psi

Wetting down the wool first can help with that

It’s 3/4x3/4”. Bent using a cheater pipe on it to see if I could cut the 1/2” with more force

Absolutely maybe do a twist that terminates to a scroll for the handle. Gotta match

I thought it looked hard too. Was fun! I knock it over the edge to open it a bit then do the rest over my fuller and clean up over the anvil. Then pean the edge on the edge. Then scroll the top and bend it over. Was pretty quick really

Well I got it put together. Had trouble with the 1/8 leaf springs but 3/8 round bar was no trouble at all. Leaf spring just cools to fast. Made it so it can cut pulling down or lifting up. Bent the handle a bit trying 1/2” rebar but I knew I was pushing my luck with that stuff

Exactly why I like split rein tongs. No welding and no drawing out. Clean up the split and get on with the project
