  1. I’d just leave it alone and make a plate that locks into the hardy hole if you need a crisp edge, most all my anvils have heavy chipped edges and I just work around em
  2. I have one of those cheaper laser thermometers I got on Amazon an I don’t think that thing is accurate within several hundred degrees, I’d be interested to here if yours works better,
  3. Thankfully This guy doesn’t run his auctions like that, he’s a straight forward guy, what you bid is what you pay with him, you don’t have to sign or agree to anything to bid, just give ‘em your ID an they give you a number he runs a small simple auction company, it’s just him auctioning, his wife runs the check in booth, daughter writes down the winning bids and his sons help carry around the speakers an mark the bidders numbers on what they bought, then he partners up with another guy who owns a food trailer to sell concessions, here in Adair county it’d be hard to get away with havin fake bidders in the crowd because everyone knows everyone an it would come out one way or another and all xxxx would break loose! Lol An angry lynch mob would storm down your door for trying to pull something like that here! lol ive bid against myself once at an auction the auctioneer just made a joke about it but didn’t raise the price on me
  4. I’ve never tried the kens tong blanks myself but I’ve heard good reviews about them, can’t wait to see your finished take on them!
  5. Good luck Thomas hopefully it don’t throw you for a loop this time
  6. Are you not worried about having to much air going to the tuyere?
  7. If you find any numbers on the base under the horn then my vote would also be a HB
  8. Boy howdy that would give a new meaning to prop wash! Man now your makin me wish I’d bought more of these while I was there! Lol, these ain’t for me, I’m sending these out west so Thomas can blow the cottonwood fuzzies outta his shop! Scott, I love goin to farm auctions, as soon as the cold weather passes an the spring thunderstorms let up you know auction season has started, I’ve been to three farm auctions in just the last month so far! i have a customer who’s an auctioneer an he always gives me a heads up when there’s an upcoming one that has stuff I might be interested in! it’s funny how people will pay thousands of dollars for a junky beat up trailer they could have bought new for less but then they won’t give a $100 bucks for a multi thousand dollar industrial machine I watched a giant diesel power plant sell for pennies on the dollar yesterday because no one wanted to mess with the logistics of moving an storing a generator as big as a truck! Lol
  9. Went to an auction this morning, bought two industrial gas heaters, two industrial feed hoppers an picked up two industrial fans for a friends shop, I’ll try an get better pictures of all the stuff I dragged home, tomorrow after I unload, but here’s some pictures of the fans Still in the back of a 2500hd truck for size reference
  10. Howdy from eastern Oklahoma and welcome to forum! anvils prices vary here in the states too, here in my territory I’ve bought used anvils at $2 a pound but in some other states and areas the prices could be as high as $6 a pound yours look like it’s in excellent condition so you shouldn’t have any trouble selling it, If you want to sell it on here you might wanna update your profile to show your location, just Incase there’s potential buyers in your area, also we have a tailgate section if you want to list it there
  11. Yes you typically would mount the vises with the leg secured on the ground, I build stand alone steel stands for mine that way I can reposition them In The smithy as a need or want, it is possible that the leg could chip your bricks with heavy work though so you may not want a metal leg on brick, you could make a leg just long enough to lock it down on the bottom of your work bench and then have a block of wood under that, but agin if your not doing any really heavy hammering or twisting heavy steel and the vise is working for what you do then I wouldn’t worry too much about it,
  12. That’s a awesome modification of one of those little mini forges! I’m always playing with building new forge designs but I use old forge parts an fab new pans, it awesome to see someone modifying a cheap an readily available forge an blower to a more usable setup! personally I prefer a solid leg on my post vises for more stability when doing heavy work and not putting so much stress on the mounting bracket’s but I have seen others setup like yours, the anvil setup is pretty cool as well, i like your separate hardy an pritchel hole setup, the anvil is a little light for my taste but if it work for your projects that’s all that counts! do you have it mounted a knuckle or wrist height? ive found I like my anvils mounted higher for light work,
  13. Found these advertisements for the company while doin some more research
  14. Found this guy when I opened up the shop this morning, that’s one big moth!
  15. I’ve had or seen Trenton’s, iron city’s, chiefs, Peter Wrights, fishers, Columbians ect… and I’ve never seen any marked with a serial number
  16. That’s an interesting setup! is that one of the modern hand crank blowers I see for sale online? if so how well does it work for you? I’ve been curious about them since I’ve seen them on the market, the anvil looks like it’s cast iron, that may be part of your problem, have you looked at any of the Vaughns hope works cast steel anvils made in the UK? i personally haven’t ever got to use one, but I’ve read others on your side of the pond saying their pretty good tools
  17. That’s where your 2” bore spike launcher would come in handy! ain’t nobody gonna hang around if you roll up with that! Lol
  18. Nah…Santa figured that scam out decades ago lol Thomas dislike for railroad spikes probably dates back to when the last spike was driven at promontory summit Utah!
  19. I’m jealous! A hard and late frost got my apple tree and peach tree blooms this spring
  20. Ah come on Thomas! i thought you always ask santy for a railroad spike every year for Christmas?
