  1. I dunno Dick, we are all different....
  2. Not saying they were I wouldn't know. Just saying now they are.
  3. Nitril gloves are pretty inexpensive.
  4. Looks like it is a Champion 400. If it is they are great blowers. Looks like all it's missing are the legs and they are just pipe that's bent out at the bottom. I would check functionality and how it sounds before you negotiate on price tho.
  5. Nice carving Dustin. JHCC, how about HF anvil carving? Should be able to chisel into them pretty easily.
  6. In auto body I've wore out more expensive mechanics gloves then I can even count. And they have saved me many a cut, scrape, burn, slice whatever. Now I buy the cheaper ones at HF. They last just as long. And by the way, they are not good to use as welding gloves With forging I started out wearing gloves but rarely do now. Usually just the left hand. I'm with JHCC on the heavy welding gloves and yeah, they like to funnel in stuff. I'll also sometimes just wear a left mechanics glove for handling the tongs or steel. If the stock is hot enough to heat up a welding glove it should be handled with tongs.
  7. Has it been stated yet? ugh... "if you have to ask how much it costs, you cant afford it"
  8. I used to get embarrassed at gatherings that my hands were never really clean or not busted up, and that was before I was blacksmithing. Mainly just doing auto body and mechanical work. Now it dosnt bother me. I am who I am and I Use my hands for hard work. (The poor things) don't let it bother you. Some people just don't use their hands for much more then typing and eating. One thing I've learned in life is we ( as humans) are all different and it takes all kinds to make it work. In other words just do what you do and be the best at it that you can be. If someone said something just explain what you do and that it's hard work. Take it as a compliment rather then an insult. It's the life of a working man. And yeah, gojo or pumice soap and a nail brush clean dirty hands up nicely. Sorry can't get a picture of my hands at the moment as I am still getting them dirty.
  9. Great job on the handle and straightening the leg. Far as I've heard the star stamp is Iron City. Enjoy it, it will serve you well for a lifetime.
  10. Cool ghosts wicon. The middle one looks pretty happy. Wayne, I have those same kind of gremlins Michael, that sounds unnerving. I've felt cold spots like that before. It's a really strange feeling. Frank, arnt cell phones great? I haven't seen a phone booth in a long time. I'm no fan of dealing with mean dogs.
  11. Well it's big here in the US. and we have paranormal groups here too. I was part of a group for a while and I will say out of all the places we investigated I only sensed something at one place we went. other then that it seemed like a lot of hype or over dramatized emotion (feelings).
  12. Happy Halloween! Let's hear your best or real ghost or creepy stories that you have experienced. My uncle died in my shop and I prefer to not say how. The man door is on one end and the garage door on the other end. Normally with the garage door open and the man door open the cross draft will slam the man door shut. Tonight I was forging with the garage door shut and the man door almost shut but all the sudden the man door creaked open. The hairs on my arms stood up. That was a new one. I invited in any good natured spirits then closed the door. Do you have any strange blacksmithing related stories? Please share.
  13. Good work. Some hardware stores sell stick on felt. I've been meaning to start using that on the base of my smaller sculptures. Just an idea. I'm enjoying what you've been making. Keep it up if it's fun for you. As I've been asked and have started doing, sign and date your art some way so people and you know who and when. I got an engraving pen for it.
  14. Very cool! I'm seeing a new scrap artist blooming keep at it. It's fun and your turning junk into fun asteticaly pleasing useful stuff or just cool art. Ain't it fun. Yeah I get several commissions just about anytime people see something I've made. I'm even back logged since summer hit and now I'm cleaning up my shop. Not easy with a full time job to boot. What do you have as a base for the candle holder?
  15. For the first "anything" you've made good job. Way better then my first. I agree with what arkie said. Also the hinge area could be less long and more beefy. If they work it's a great success and you will improve from there. a picture of them closed all the way would be nice. Yeah. We like pictures.
  16. One question is do you have a welder and can use it or can access someone who can?
  17. I think the colors look nice, but it would depend on the look you are going for. Might help those that know if you included what alloys you used.
  18. That's a good score just on the brass hammer.
  19. That's some good pickings. As a word of caution ( in case you don't know but you might) if you are going to take that spring off that strut, it is under high tension. Use a spring compressor before unbolting it or take it to a tire shop and ask them to do it. They can be dangerous. Just trying to spread the word.
  20. There was a time we got really slow at work, and I just can't sit idle, so I was pulling magnets out of junk parts like power window motors and was playing around building little things with nuts bolts and ball bearings and the magnets. I really like this. Great concept!
  21. I ran into that issue too. I saw a picture of a jig ......somewhere....... I'll have to look for it again. I havnt made any lately so it slipped my mind until you posted. Love your description. "I think it looks like a drunk chimpanzee got in the metal pile." http://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/20519-dinner-bell-jig/ here's one
  22. Great work as always Stormcrow! That double edge cleaver it a beast as well as the carcass splitter. Really like the short sword profile.
