  1. I may be seeing things but that symbol that looks like an arrow pointing upwards does look like part of the Wilkinson sign , see the photo of another Wilkinson that I used to own. note that photo is turned sideways the arrow shape is actually pointing up.
  2. Here is a photo of the opposite site of this anvil
  3. Hi Frozenforge thanks for your comment the photo I took of the opposite side is too dark so I am getting the seller to send me another, there may have been a w amongst the chisel marks. It may well be a wilkinson
  4. Thanks ausfire I did finally find some replacement belts but it wasn`t easy when I bought it I was thinking it was a lot older and a better bargain than it probably is.
  5. Thanks guys, though this was going to be a tough one most times you get at least a letter or a bit of a symbol showing.Problem is its not mine and I no longer have access to it.Here is a couple more photos that show the shape of the feet clearer which are similar to a mouse hole and also a pre 1852 PW
  6. Just picked this up from a private sale for $80 not sure how old it is but works like new.
  7. I know this guy who wants to sell an anvil but doesn't want to put a price ion it until he finds out more about it, namely the makers name and age . I had limited time to look at it but this is what I got. Stamped 1-3-20 which I make 216 pounds .Its in good condition has good rebound across the entire face and nice ring. but cannot see any other markings.
  8. She`s lucky she has you Charles, down side is it gives you a lot of grief.
  9. wow now that's a great knife.
  10. Thanks Ausfire the capillary tube is good because the wall thickness is quite large for its diameter so can be bent tight without creasing, makes a comfortable handle. Got enough knives now don`t really have the right grinding/polishing setup looking forward new project but finding the right one not easy.
  11. Had some of this refrigeration capillary tube laying around so use for a copper wrap.
  12. Great stone work and the plate is unique , you need to heat it up dish it slightly and drill a hole in the middle to drain the fat. Nice Ek what the one on the right?
  13. That's a good story of the restoration of someone's proud possession, you probably got more enjoyment out of that job than making a new knife especially with the results.

Very nice, I like the shape, your friend will be happy with that one.
  15. Here is the second try of a knife made out of coil spring in one piece with a metal hand Although its probably more a dagger. I should have taken more photos, but there is one directly after welding . The brass inlay was to cover a stuff up in that slight hollows were leaf after re forging.
  16. Hi Ausfire the process of folding over or adding pieces then re forging works well for me because I have not mastered forge welding.you should try the process with mild steel for your camp oven lifters after re forging if your lucky you can`t see the weld marks. .So far I have not had any problems with welding and re forging spring steel,I allow the this to heat up to a dull red before welding clean the slag a good wire brush and back in the forge
  17. Excellent work, I really like the machete look good enough to put on display and more than capable of cutting a path through heavy scrub.
  18. Hi libraria and thanks, as I said before I am no knife maker and the method would probably be considered un conventional at best I started using the method for a few fire pokers and like you like the idea of a metal handle.Once the section (3to 4 inches is folded over and welded its heat to bright yellow and re forged. The guard can be shaped before or after. If you can get 5/8 spring steel it would be better with a larger handle Cheers Stan
  19. Thanks bikecop,a rapped handle a good idea Charles
  20. Thanks Frosty, The Torii or gate symbol is usually at the entrance to the Shintio Shrine ,it marks the Transition from the Profane to the sacred,a little over my head
  21. I wish I had see that video 6 months ago Frosty would have save me $300 after I cut the ring in two places with side cutters, she was carrying on though.
  22. Thanks Guys ,looking at the photo again I see the bottom of the gate was copped out
  23. I agree there is there is something really nice about a Gray Huston video no matter what the subject.I have watch Nathan baker`s fire poker video many times for stress reasons
