  1. The buffer is one of the most dangerous tools in my shop. It sits out there waiting for chances at trying to kill me. When i was working on a throwing spike, using the loose canvas wheel, it pulled the knife out of my hand and stuck it into a particle board wall. I thought it was cool, then got to thinking that that wall could have been me. Also, does anyone know a place that still sells the bricks of polishing compound? I looked at lowes and HF, and all they have are those tiny sticks.
  2. Well that proves someone can make money. I wonder, if those chimes sell good over here, would knives sell good over is china?
  3. looks like a good knife. Handle looks great. Never tried quenching in veggie oil b4 though.
  4. I just about make whatever needs making, as long as there are only two or less moving parts. Dont really make a living off of it, but it is a paying hobby. As long as my shop pays for itself, im not worried about it.
  5. i would try the hay polishing on a scrap piece of metal b4 a finished cutlass. But i have no idea what type of steel would be best for a cutlass. Maybe a leafspring from a car? Take a decent amount of forge work, but it could probably be done.
  6. I love the smell and everything of coal, but hate all the hassles of working with it. Storage and all that mess everyone else mentioned. I used coal for about 1 yr. then i switched to propane. I like propane a heck of a lot better. Just light it and go. I found one thing that was kind of in between propane and coal, and its called "Cowboy Charcoal". Its sold at lowes, and its that old style charcoal. Its about $6 for one of the bags, and the bags would last me about 3 hrs. at welding heat. It would probably last longer with a hand crank blower or a small electric blower, but i had neither so i used a leaf blower. Big hole in the bottom of my coal forge from that, but thats a different story.
  7. thx for the help guys

  9. My facorite hammer is a Stanley 2 lb. drilling hammer. Has a really short handle, which I seem to like for some reason.

Just got an old well tank. About 4-5 ft. tall and about 2-3 ft. diameter. Any1 know what type of material this is?
  23. I hate snakes. I keep my 20 ga. loaded if i see one and have a chance to go get it. Might be overkill, but atleast they are dead. Done killed 3 baby copperheads and saw about 5 more.
  24. way to go. yea, it is kind of addicting. I agree with the others, you can use railroad spikes for many things. Also, i saw thomas write something abut coil springs, but you can also use the leaf spring of a automobile.
