  1. Is it normal for the smaller Fisher anvils to not any makings cast into them? No numbers or letters? I had a smaller 50lb Fisher not too long ago and it did not.
  2. That looks really great. Was that all forge work or grinding?
  3. This site has some pretty good prices. As far as I can see they have many of the same anvils as the 'OldWorldAnvils' site. Though shipping might kill the deal. http://www.kowalperun.com/
  4. I meant to ask is it had the same form as that on, a Italian pattern.
  5. $200 for 154lbs in great condition, JUMP on it before someone else does.
  6. Did it look anything like this? http://www.flickr.com/photos/janosgaborvarga/5057972416/
  7. If you look at the pic I uploaded you will see on the bottom right of the stand there are wheels attached at the bottom on the stand. When you want to move it you simply tip it and push.
  8. Martin if you are looking for a belt operated blower you could buy the blower (they are being sold on the OddDuck website) and make a mechanism from bike wheels, although it it not exactly a belt it does essentially operate like one.
  9. It does kinda look like the Vulcan in this picture. Notice the feet. http://anvilfire.com/anvils/donated_024.php
  10. How to Make wooden threads: http://www.pbs.org/woodwrightsshop/video/2700/2704.html
  11. What can you say about that Polish anvil you have there? Do you know what city it is out of and the year? Why is there no horn? The chisel work is nice, not something you see often.
  12. Who ever thought you could make a fortune from bent nails? Looks like Carpenters are heading for a early retirement. You mind posting some pics or the rings?
  13. Pardon the ignorance but why would it have to be rebuild?
  14. So does anyone know anything about these smaller blowers?
  15. I would not think it is a Vulcan, Vulcans seem to be more blocky. It is important to remember as well his location. To me to looks a little like a Vaugh Brooks because of the mass under the hardy, also they were made in England and English anvils are far, far more common in Ontario then American anvils, at least the ones I have seen around.
  16. Just cut a 2x4 into pieces and lay them flat on the stump and parallel to one another. Once you have them cut screw them to the stump. What is great is that the 2x4's are really 1 1/2''x 3 /12'' or something similar, perfect for you. Buy one 2x4 (about $2 where I live) and you have your solution.
  17. It looks ok as far as condition. Tell him you would offer him $400, counting your fuel costs its a fair deal.
  18. The Lanisters never had a Valyrian steel blade anyway, it the one he might is more correct.
  19. So what was the final weight once you finished?
  20. I really do like the lines. The only problem I have with it is the eye is too narrow.
  21. I am able to buy a hand cranked blower but it has about a 7-8'' fan. I would like to know if this is large enough to run a coal forge.
  22. Use a yellow exacto knife with the disposable blades. Like other have sead it needs to be sharps. The blades are sharp and very thin, so they can get in between the steel and concrete.
  23. That was my concern originally. I spoke to a welder who has been in the trade for over 30 years. He told me as long as I keep the thing cooling very slowly it should be ok. I forgot what it was called but he said to buy one thing that will keep it cooling very slowly so slowly that even the next day it will be too hot to touch. I do not really understand that because it sounds like annealing to me but that was what he said. Did you not notice the softening (as in it DID in fact soften but was unnoticeable) or was there no softening at all?
