  1. Pictures? American had a few different logo styles
  2. That is a Trenton anvil. If there's any faint markings left, they will be on the side of the anvil with the horn facing right.
  3. You mean the A&H stamp is on one side, and the Imperial is on the other side? They looked like two completely different surfaces of anvils, one cleaner, and one more rusty! My mistake. There were several different A&H logos used over their years. Yours is an early version of the stamp. Look for the serial number on the front foot, It will most likely be under the 13,000 serial number range. The other examples you showed are later style A&H logo stamps .
  4. The A&H is there for reference comparison, not his anvil in question.
  5. Yes, better resolution might help! Also a shot of the underside of the anvil, and look for a serial number on the front foot under the horn....
  6. Any chance of wire brushing the side a bit, and getting a better closeup picture? Would love to see closer pictures.
  7. Trenton anvil, but please take a close-up pic of the side horn facing to the right. If there's any faint remains of the Trenton logo that's where they would be.
  8. Several BSA anvils have been seen before, some have a year on them, most think the year was indication of the founding of BSA and not the casting date.
  9. Beautiful anvil. If you are happy with anvil for the price that you paid, that is all that matters. It looks to be in very nice condition! Mr. Postman must have seen that exact anvil before, because that SAME serial number is listed in his book as 1919 date. That is the 5th style of A&H logo stamp.
  10. It is for forging (among other things) carriage hardware brackets, the U-shaped hardware (with rather square corners) that holds leaf springs in place.
  11. BK was a Australian anvil company that made cast steel anvils. You see them around from time to time.... Edit: look on the Anvil Reviews By Brand page, there's a whole thread about BK.
  12. Thanks! This is the fist style of logo that actually had the name "Arm and Hammer" on the anvil. The three previous stamp logos before this had the picture stamp of the arm holding the hammer, but never had the name.
  13. Fatfudd, lovely A&H! Can you get a pic of the serial number? I'd like to add this to the logo stamp listing.
  14. Probably the early version of the Fisher eagle.
  15. Littleblacksmith, could you take some close-up pics of the Trenton stamp on the side, and another pic of the serial number on the front foot under the horn? I'd like to add it to the logo database vs serial number.
  16. Not true! Many Swedish anvils (including Kohlswas) were marked in pounds for export. The majority of Swedish anvils I run across are marked in pounds.
  17. Take some measurements, overall length, face width, and height. I have recorded many hundred anvils from manufacturers with dimensions vs weight, it comes in extremely handy. I can get you close to actual weight.
  18. Not a Trenton. Looks like HB to me. How about a closeup shot of the side with horn facing right? ...being buried like that, there's a good chance that any markings have been corroded away over time.
  19. This is an easy A&H for sure. What is the overall length and face width? That gives an idea of weight. Sfmg_medo, A&H's usually had the weight stamped on the side under the logo.
  20. Fantastic! Do you have stamp and serial number for your other A&H?
  21. I responded to your post, but see you have a couple lovely A&H's!

Could you get a closeup pic of the side logos and of the serial numbers?  A&H used several different logo styles through the years, and I'm trying to assign serial number ranges for each logo style.  Each sample helps!

  22. phabib, please post a closeup picture of the side logo and serial number if you could, I'd like to add it to the logo database. Trenton had many variations of their logo stamp over the years. I'm trying to figure out serial number ranges that went with each logo stamp style. Each sample helps!
  23. Can you please post a closeup picture of the side logo and the serial number? I'd like to add it to the A&H logo database!
