  2. here is the spec's on a R & R Spike . Yes it shows the % of everything in a spike construction as per made ! Sam
  3. Glad to Hear that Ryan you will be much better off doing it this way . Sam
  4. If you turn the truck around and stored it on the plate side you would not have to put any type of feet on it to keep it from tipping over when stored . JIMHO Sam
  5. Hello Forging Family, Today my family has received some very bad news my Father -in- Law has Colon Cancer He is 71 years old . A year or so back he made a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) decree and keeps it with him at all times . However when he found out he had Cancer he ripped it up and said he wanted to live for his Grand kids and still be part of their lives .(Thank the Good Lord above he is not giving up !) he is the only /last living Grand Parent that my kids have . Please keep him and us in your Prayers as we will soon be going to FL to be with him as he is getting ready for surgery to remove a baseball sized tumor form his colon and will have to endure Chemo as well to ensure that it is all gone . This Good Man is /has been very good to me and like a Dad to me from the time I met him . Best Regards & Blessings Sam Here are a few of Poppa John
  6. Spruce, IMHO, here is what I see wrong with your forge at this point. it is not coated ,you have it lined yet you are burning the lining up , you have two burners in it and it is a small unit and they seem /look like they are not adjusted correctly (the flame is very orange to indicate they are very rich /burning at a blue flame is desired . Sam
  7. Good Score and very good friend . Put them to work ! Sam
  8. here is two of my Best ! Sam
  9. I noticed that the welded disc at the bottom under the foot of the vice is not welded all the way around only on the sides . when you start hammering on it it will crack the welds on the sides it is inevitable as it happens all the time . Example : when welding a "T" if you only weld one side of the T joint you can hammer on the opposite site of the weld and it normally will not break the weld , However if you hit the side with the weld it will fall off (even with a good solid weld ) So by welding the disc all the way around you avoid Breaking the welds on the sides . also a small ring of pipe welded to the top will keep the foot from Drifting/sliding to the side or off the disc causing the bolts at the upper mounting point undue stress and lopping off a toe when /if they fail. Best Regards Sam
  10. Ryan, This Statement alone tells me you need a Bunch of Training! "I have never welded before. I am often using carbon steel and tool steel". One can Only Guesstimate about your abilities to work with any type of steel. I have welded most all of my life and I can tell you the very first thing I teach any student is Safety. You need to consider taking a intro course to Welding 101 and not on here, as there is an intro course posted .I do not think it would help you IMHO. I would recommend one there in Atlanta and believe me there are some very fine Vocational Schools there. I will bore you or others with a lecture on welding machines, their abilities and Functions as they are already posted here in this section. your question about what machine you need can only be answered by you due to the fact you are the only one that knows what you want to try to do with the welder . Best Regards Sam
  11. Yes Frosty, I should be much happier very soon . I have done so much with so little for so long . I won't know how to act  with a quality piece of equipment built to last and make life and knife making much easier . both myself and my good friend have hopes of finishing it before the end of the month and have a good selection of belts to put it to work . Sam
  12. I love mine Frosty had to make a lil bigger handle tips so my mangled hands can hold on to them but they work very well . Sam
  13. Wow Brother that is Awesome work, I love the patten on the blade . Sam

  15. I have a few more photos to post in the next few days, the unit has been bead blasted and coated in clear along with the lock pin on the tension arm for belt set up and aliment (like on a chop saw hold down) all the handles and knobs are done , and the adapter for a quick release wheel attachment for Large and Small wheels man this thing is looking Awesome Now on to the Veritable speed motor and controller. I am very excited to get this finished and put it to work . Sam
  16. Well it is almost finished ! it is a custom build KMG type grinder that I have posted a ton of times when asked the question of what grinder should I get /build many will recognize it and yes custom ! as myself and a friend have changed many things to make it more worker friendly and easier to operate . with out due here are a few photos 7 attached at this location . http://imgur.com/epQNnMW,USXNl6L,SPcTmE5,ql1lbop,8OVubzB,nAFuyaa,cAxHFF4#0 Enjoy & Best Regards Sam

  18. Any Bad day in the shop is better Not being able to get in the shop for work at all . Looks good man Put it to work . Samuel
  19. Good Job Scott , I just did not see any plate added ,yet i know you only showed a few shots . I have used an Octagon plate before many folks have never seen them or heard of them for frame work . However it does take the stress out of the main weld and gives better support from cracking . as for a wire brush I use one on a 4 1/2 grinder It is easier on my grip that i do not have anymore . Sam
  20. Here in Tennessee , and I am sure else where Many old timers did as well We soak any loose and New handles with the heads or hoes , ECT on the handles in Diesel for a day or two the oil in the Diesel swells the wood and keeps the heads of tool from getting loose . Just my .02 cents worth Sam
  21. I love the coffin shaped handle ! I can not wait to see it finished . Sam
