  1. Alexander Weygers gets into making pliers in his book(s)
  2. Very cool, can I ask how big is it?
  3. Mine is titled "Traditional Blacksmithing The fine Art of Horseshoeing and Wagon Making". I think he only wrote one book but each edition is titled differently.
  4. Thanks Stefflus, that made me smile, those guys really knew what they were doing.
  5. I really like that Michael. The piece on my photo (icon?)was my attempt at an angel.
  6. All of that stuff looks pretty familiar although I don't recognize anything on the hammer. The furnace is what is called a car-bottom furnace and at my old place of employment we had three in the heat treating department, each measured about 4 x 4 x 8 feet inside.
  7. a cupstone in the 9" grinder mentioned above works quite well to get a flat surface (in my experience).
  8. Well ... what are you planning to sew? I've done a lot of work on bulldozers from 60 to 200 ton but that said my 10 ton can do a lot when set up right and its quick. The larger bulldozers at work were well supported and I don't recall any issues with the seals.
  9. That sounds like a bulldozer to me, we had one at the raiway with a 500 ton cylinder about 18" dia. and about a 2 foot stroke. There are a lot of jobs where horizontal just works better.
  10. My opinion would be to start planning your foundation. B)
  11. Very nice work, both the smithing and the filming.(not such a fan of the music though)
  12. Great lookin hammer, I can see its related to my Beaudry but there's some interesting differences.
  13. So what happened to the pics? Enquiring minds want to know!
  14. I use a program called Megacad, it was shareware, not sure if it still is. Very simple and it can save and edit DXF files.
  15. Good to see another Manitoban. That shed looks good but is going to be a mite chilly in a few weeks :)
  16. Thanks, and please let us see it smoooosh something.
  17. The hammers I have experience with had a cap with a spring inside attached to a pin that went into the cylinder so the piston would hit the pin before it hit the top.
  18. Yes, that size is OK. Blown burners aren't nearly as complicated as venturi burners. Just gas and air and someway to control the relative amounts of each. I use a butterfly type valve on my air and a regulator on my propane tank. The burner is made out of 1 1/2" black pipe with the propane in a 1/4" copper pipe through a hole drilled in the 1 1/2". Make sure the regulator can give you enough volume. You might want to add something at the end of your burner to introduce some turbulence.
  19. Good wrought iron can be very nice to forge but tires are usually made from pretty crappy wrought and need quite a bit of forging before they start to behave.
