  1. Weapons, no matter how "cute" carry BAD vibes. I am sure in making it the thought of actually sticking a person with it was in your mind, dragging you down into the DARK. Not as good a thought as what comes to mind when forging a kitchen implement, or a cleaver. Never mind this OLD hippy's ramblings , You do good work Sam, please continue to post pics.
  2. Godfrey South, WWW Darenth Valley Forge U.K. Is flogging anvils as he is immigrating to Canada. He also has plenty other tools and equipment for sale, none of it cheap, Be sure to use my name, good luck!!
  3. I am getting ready to pressure wash my powerhammer with gasoline, it needs cleaning so bad, but I was so concerned with my manicure and nail polish that i just couldn't. Thanks for the heads-up on these gloves, they should help. This is dangerous in so many ways. See post below
  4. Me ,fat n happy in an English pub.
  5. good spurs in this video , and GOOD MUSIC!

  7. Try getting some stuff called "neva sieze" a heavy graphite lube is used in the chem. plants to lube valve screws and bolts. It never hardens and is very slippery.
  8. Cape chisels , see MT Richardson " Practical Blacksmithing" vol #2 .
  9. I think it is a Hay Budden , not all have a weight stamp on them. $600.00 would be about right too, That rock brought to Baton Rouge would be worth a LOT more than that.
  10. Can you use fresh cut green wood for making charcoal? I like the bagged charcoal found now in the Winn Dixie store for convenience.I don't think the city / neighbors would like it if i were making my own, so this is a just curious question.
  11. Absolutely deserved Sir ! Great work! Show us MORE!!
  12. Edgar Brandt inspired you I see. Very nice work Tim , This kind of pics and descriptions is what I was hoping to see when Southshore Smithy "came out". I have been looking for the professionals amongst us to "lift up" the level of work posted on IFI , You have! Carry on sir!
  13. CH Perdue, can't you get a dry T.I.G. torch? Hook it up DC straight and scratch start? Weldcraft is one brand name. I use 1/8" tungsten, pure argon and e-70s2 fillerwire. I make a lot of scrollwork panels. and tack them with M.I.G. after which I weld them with T.I.G.. Sorta fusing adding filler weld. This is much cleaner welds tham using the M.I.G. alone, and the amount of weld to grind off is much less. It's a lot easier to drag a light torch to the work too. I want to know how well the Henrob will cut 1/2" x 1/2" solid bar, Is it easier/ cleaner/faster/ than a victor and does it use less gas?
  14. I use a product called "Neva Sieze" on the hammer guides (L.G.100) and 30 wt oil on all the other moving parts (except the motor) this hammer is a real mess, with scale build-up and oil. Think I am gonna have to pressure wash it with gasoline.
  15. I did that and very carefully walked the mess out into the driveway so i could re-wind it on the spool , too cheapskate to waste an inch of wire.
  16. S hooks can lead you to making a pot rack which hangs over the stove, and will sell so fast you will be a fulltime biz before long!
  17. What was the metal you used? I think a piece of auto lug wrench would do .
  18. Breaker bits (jackhammer ) are really easy to find, at tool rental places, if they are too short they discard them. They have a nice collar already there and can be easily forged from the five sided shape to a hardy hole shape. Forge it square and parallel, then hot filing it to the final fit. Keep it square and not tapered then the hardy does not wiggle, for the cutting end.. let it be rounded, it cuts well that shape, and there is less chance of nicking the hammer than if it were flat across. Lot less work than altering a trailer ball.
  19. Homie , if you pay the utilities to run it. I just might .".No way" she say!
  20. This is important ! Somebody needs to "pick up the ball " and continue the development of our peculiar demands on this technology.
  21. We pay a lot for good coal down here on the Bayou, AND have to drive 80 miles round trip to buy 100lb bags for $40. Ea. Propane i get delivered from the welding supplies, I own a 100 lb tank and get it filled and returned for $1.00 lb. For the other solid fuel forge it is lump charcoal from Winn Dixie 25lb bag for $8.00 My building has hi pressure natural gas piped in 1-1/4 " that I am reducing to 3/8" for a blown gasser. it doubles as a space heater and a month of cold weather and forging scrolls has cost as much as $45. gas charge on the utilities bill. All the things Mr. Hale recommends are good, I have a switch and an intake restrictor plate on the coal forge blower. The charcoal forge has a hand crank buffalo blower. I still want to make an induction forge from an old Craftsman bug zapper when I have the entire roof, 10,000 square feet covered in solar panels. That would be cooking without gas!
  22. I want...need ...gotta have one..."no " the wife says.
  23. Raise one disc into a MORIAN helmet. or if you feel really ambitious a BASCINET (SP.?) Those helms were all made from one piece of iron.
  24. I just bought a new Makita grinder. On the power cord is a plastic cylindrical thing that slips loosley up and down the wire and seems to serve NO usefull porpose. What is this thing there for?
