be careful tho! antifreez makes the perfect poison for pets and wild animals.
  4. that price is hard to argue with... but way too much for me or my family at this point.
  5. i think for now i am going to build a helve hammer cheap+quick, then upgrade as i go p.s the suggestions are great, keep them coming!
  6. so i got the 200lb anvil home, turned out to be 150lbs, I agrred to pay $90 before i saw it, it has some dings in the face that are about 1/4" wide and 1/8" deep, some nave been welded. About 2/3 of the way srom the step, just before the waist, there is a crack clean through the face plate on the edge (3/4" across face) and it has a little de-lamination. for $90 its not a bad deal... oh, and the guy threw in a seized 6" post vice that i got freed up a,d 22 sets of tongs AND 3 handled round punches.
  7. that was what i was thinking, i want to be able to flip it for a better oe in a moments notice.
  8. you can use a slitting chisle (search it) to make the gap, then spread it with a punch or a wider chisle, then drift with a tomahawk drift and draw the chheks out
  9. hate when that happens! i will keep my eyes open for more stuff that i cant afford LOL! i cant wait for the september demo/classes with brian brazeal!!!
  10. great story!!!! nice blade! and even better name!
  11. so i have been doing more reading (yes i know how lol) and i have seen lots about wetting your coal/coke while the fire is burning to control it. What i am wondering is, when i got my first forge it's firepot was only about 1/4" thick, when it got hot i would wet it to cool it off... it cracked. so now i am on my 3rd forge (cast iron canadian forge co round firepot) and i was thinking about wetting the coke i burn to control it, but i am worried about cracking it. So my question is, how do you wet coal/ coke without ruining your forge? because wouldn't a cast pot crack, and a fabbed one's welds pop from cooling too rapidly? quite a novice question but i want to know what i am missing.
  12. hahaha ya, but im 16 so i really dont neeeeed to work, besides... i get chili cookies skating a hot tub and her moms home made butter tartes :)
  13. i tested the lamination with my "anvil testing kit" a ball pein hammer, 1/2" ball bearing and a thickness guage for spacing magnitos on small motors, tapped it with the hammer *dong* hollow sound and very little rebound, ball braring dropped from aprox 1 foot rebounded 2", thickness guage on area where it looked to be delaminating and the cornger of the card slid in a 1/4" on the corner....pass lol the screw was not good enough to warrant the $100 i offered and he said i was way off i have never seen an anvil like this tho, it looked like a peter wright (edge on the feet) but on the step unser the horn there is a 4 on each side and nothing on the sides, not evern stone weight markings
  14. went to look at the anvil and post vice today, photos make them look better than they really are, tha anvil's face is starting to de laminate and the vice dosnt close all the way (screw copletely tightened) and the guy ***claimed*** to have an offer of 350, i said "JUMP ON IT! take the offer"
  15. i just figured out how to resize pictures!
