    heart attack

I had a Heart attack and quadrupled bypass surgery on the 6/16/14 - and surgery on the 17th. Please keep me in your prayers for a fast and full recovery. Thank you Scott.
  2. That anvil is cast no doubt. It looks like cast steel though. If its iron, it's quality cast iron. Not a lot of defects from what I can see. Iron and steel to me seem to look different when cast.
  3. What part of Tn. Do ya live in?
  4. You should be VERY happy with it for that price. Nice find.
  5. A good starting point is if you have a 1/8 rod its wire diameter Is .125 I set a machine to 125 and adjust accordingly to that. Every machine will be a bit different depending on a number of factors. Lead size and length, material being welded and even the manufactur of the rods being used. If you're using AC VS.DC things change as well. A good rule of thumb is diameter of the rod as your heat. 3/32 is .093 so your heat should be around that on a DC + machine and so on. I'm sure you will have to tweak it one way or the other.
  6. You're welcome. Glad you've gotten yourself a useable Anvil. If you're ever in the Chattanooga area look me up. We have a great forge at the choo choo forge. Some really good people there too.
  7. That's a find looking knife all around. Great craftsmanship all together.
  8. Southern crescent anvils were made in Chattanooga Tennessee. Decent anvils from what I've heard.
  9. I've welded AR 400 steel before and it's a pain. One could buy some heavy plate cut them out bigger and have them machined down to size. You're looking at some money there though. Why not build it up with 309 Stainless and hard surface over that? Stainless will probably hold up better than the carbon. One could at least try one or two until you found the best combination.
  10. I've seen some beautiful knives with the file teeth showing. That's a fine looking either way.
  11. Depending on location and how bad you want a a anvil. To be honest I personally feel that's a bit high in price. The anvil should weigh in the neighborhood of 107#. At that price I'd be looking at buying a new anvil. This anvil looks to be in decent shape but, not $5 a pound. Just my oppion.
  12. Thank you very much Tim. Although now I'm going to have to try my hand at it. Looks great my friend.
  13. Fine kooking knife. I'd love to see a WIP on one of these and details on hoe it wss made. Scott
  14. Whatever it is, it has some age on it. Looks to be in pretty good shape too.
  15. Looks like a good start. Keep it up!
  16. I've made him a knife or two and this. Once it leaves my possession I never get it back. He's like I'll never get it back lol If I get the chance I'll add a tubing hole to the back and a lanyard.
  17. Made this one from an old saw blade. I would have did the handles a bit different but, my father in law wanted it this way so that's what he got. It's a bit rough but, I like it.
