Plasma Cutter, any recommendations
Thinking about purchasing a plasma arc cutter with a built in air compressor . I have been told they are problematic . I would use for cutting 10 ga. Mild steel and lighter gauge copper or aluminum . Thank You Marc your account(s) here have been closed due to your having 3 accounts, and your spamming the forum with multiple postings of this question.

Real Blacksmiths Don't Wear Gloves?
My first 5 year I did not wear gloves. I started wearing gloves before purchasing a gas forge. I wear or try to remember to wear them all the time now. They have no effect on my hammer work . No loose clothing, always wear eye protection. One of my draws at demos, watch me catch fire. Marc

Correct Hammer position/ blows
I use more of a drop then a swing, guide the hammer with a relaxed( as I can) grip. Use your knees. Marc

Professional Smithing by Donald Streeter?
It's well worth the read. The one and only negative comment I have seen is ,it's not for a beginning smith. I agree it's not. I've found it helpful and interesting. Marc

Fire tools length
I was given 3/4 the height of the intended . I pre make a set of 30 inch for shows. Which are then used as reference as they're too short or too long.

Counting heats.
I get more work per heat as I become more efficient . The first hundred are the rough ones.then I realize I've been doing it wrong.

Shrinking joinery
I've set gear rings using that method . Bolts on N Reactors are said to set that way. Never saw it done but a friend did and was really impressed.

Blacksmithing gems and pearls
Every now and then you have to step back and look at what you're doing. I was in High School painting a fence for the farmer I worked for. It's been applicable ever since.

Show me your Bottle Openers!
Here are my BunnyRoo and wizard openers, the blue on the ducks. Clean well and I use a propane torch to bring out the color. Not hard.

overgripping the hammer - any solutions?
I agree with Mr Turley. If you can find a experienced smith to coach you. What I imagine my body mechanics to be is not always the case. Look in to kettlebell work outs to help with muscle imbalance in the long run. Marc

Neighbors and noise
I've had no complaints . Back before cell phones I had a intercom in the shop so I could hear the house phone ring. Just fired some green coal, bay doors open smoke rolling out. Phone rang , I ran to house 100 yards away. Neighbor had a friend visiting . Seeing the smoke and me running . He told my neighbor to call 911 and he would run over and help. . She looked out the door , told him to calm down ,that's normal.

When is good enough actually good enough?
My goodenough has gotten a lot better over the years. My customers have always been pleased with my results. Some surprisingly so. The items I make for shows and the same for my custom requests. Momentarily it the most beautiful thing I've done. Then I start my critique . Pretty soon I'm ashamed and surprised anyone would want it. But they do. I'm very grateful for that. But. It's a vicious cycle. the more I do , the better it gets, the unhappier I am with past projects. I'm not sure we should ever be happy with good enough an I have ate time and once gave money back when I really over estimated my time. Marc

I sell Etsy. Art and Craft shows and a local Farmers market in a good area. plus a few galleries. Once off the back of the truck after they flagged me over. I,ll at time s make knives or letter openers but price the mod. to high. If you are going to sale knives check the rules and do not sale cheap ones. Marc
