JSet12
Hi guys.. long time lurker here hoping someone can give some suggestions on what type of anvil this could be? My friend has this anvil at his welding shop he works at. He says he has never seen anyone use it. I haven't seen it and he hasn't mentioned any marking on it, but here are a couple pics to show what it looks like: Also, I should have more pics this evening when I see it in person... hopefully I'll be able notice if there are any markings on it then. Black Frog
Might possibly be a Samson anvil. Scrub the top of the cutting table and see if there's any remnants of the factory stamping.
JSet12
Thanks, I will do that this evening and take some pics of it myself to share. Can you tell me anything about Samson anvils, or point me in a direction that I can research them (should this anvil be a Samson)?
JHCC
Is it just me, or can anyone else see the photos in the OP?
ThomasPowers
not just you; doesn't seem to be a link or a picture on my system (windows 10, chrome as browser)
Smoggy
I can't see them either JHCC, just three chapters of code which I can't copy to paste to the search bar....!
Will W.
Yeah, I've got nothing either. Same thing as what Smoggy said.

JSet12
Sorry guys.. I'll upload them here. Before I just pasted them into the window. 4 minutes ago, Irondragon Forge & Clay said: Windows 7 and Firefox browser. Well, that's a relief. We had an issue a few years back with a software upgrade that lost almost all the photos on the site forever. There was just another software update in the last few days, so perhaps we're a bit jumpy.
ThomasPowers
Saw them in the latest, not in the first or in IronDragon's attempt
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
Something funky is going on. The pictures are now gone from the OP and my post too. It must be something with the hosting Jset12 uses because when I click on the link in my post it takes me to Google sign in.
JSet12
It could possibly be something to do with the fact that I copied the images from Google Hangouts and then pasted them into the post. Maybe the images only work if you are signed into Google when viewing the thread? Anyway, now I know to upload versus just copy/paste. That said, I got the anvil last night but by the time I got home it was too dark for pictures. I'll take more later today and post.

Frosty
Maybe it was a copy right protection code thing from Google or maybe just fog on the information super highway. Looks to be in pretty unused condition except for the torch gouge and big chip. I'm unfamiliar with "Samson" anvils but the chipped edge looks like hard high carbon steel that was whacked with a sledge hammer. Perhaps some idjit with a sledge hammer hitting it just because. I've worked with guys like that, knocked one down for walking up behind me and leaning on me while I was running a lathe. That wasn't the first time he pulled that kind of stunt nor the last. Anyway, idjits will abuse things just because they're there. It doesn't look like it's ever been worked on other than the chip and torch cut. Your friend looking to get rid of it? I'd certainly entertain any reasonable offer. Frosty The Lucky.
JSet12
Actually my friend was getting it for me. My first anvil and I'm very lucky and super excited that it cost me nothing! Anyone willing to take a guess at it's worth? Not that I really care because it has a decent ring to it and the hammer rebound seems good also. ThomasPowers
The inset on the foot with the name in it reminds me of a certain make. Can you clean that up a bit to see if I'm right?
Charcold
Face looks clean other than that chip, great anvil for the price of free!
Black Frog
not the normal looking Fisher I guess....
JSet12
I'm out of town until Sunday. How should I clean up the face and rest of the anvil?
