JT
here is a poor abused Anvil that's at a small local auction this week... a sad sight to see how someone could do this... beat almost to smithereens and it's still getting bids !! JHCC
Ah, another "rare step-faced anvil".
BIGGUNDOCTOR
If it is a wrought iron body it may be getting bids for just the material
JT
I'm not sure... but it kinda looks like a early Fisher I have with the extra material under the heel and the cutout between the rear feet..

ThomasPowers
Didn't the cast iron bodied Badger's have that swell too?

I don't know for sure what it is.. but the auction is up tonight in about an hour and it is at $100.00 right now and 10% fees and 6% sales tax so $117.26 right now !! ThomasPowers
OK: Anvils in America shows a advertisement for Badger anvils with the swell beneath the hardy hole and a cut out beneath it in the foot. Looks like that one is a Badger!
JT
yes I was looking too and I agree with you !! looks like a Badger !! it just sold at $120.10 total with fees and tax !!
Will W.
Wow. That anvil has seen better days! Did it give any more info when you looked them up? Did they have wrought iron bodies? I'm just curious at this point. Anvils are expensive, no doubt, but that seems like a bit to pay for one that has little function as is. ThomasPowers
Cast iron with steel face much like the Vulcan
Will W.
Oh, I see. I have an old Fisher that is the same, cast body with steel face. Little bit better shape, however haha.
gote
Would a wrought anvil body ever chip like this one has? I would have assumed cast iron body at the first glance and considered it a very expensive doorstop. A solid piece of worougt iron could have its uses as stock for something. ThomasPowers
You can chip an anvil made from butter under certain circumstances! But that one looks like cast iron failure rather than wrought iron failure.
