JeepinJoe
Found a decent deal on an anvil. Guy says no markings or any numbers stamped in it so I am at a loss to what kind it may be. 10" high, 23" long and horn is 11". Said it was around 200 pounds. Anyone have any idea what kind it is? He wants $400 for it. It's about 2 hr drive so was hoping someone may know before I make the drive. The guy weighed it for me and its 150 pounds. turbo7
You nearly back home with it?

This one doesn't seem to have any markings so it's throwing me off.

Hey, the markings on my Mousehole are so worn that I didn't realize they were there until thirty years after I bought the anvil. Try looking in a low-angle light; wetting the surface can help, too. Black Frog
23" long and 10" high is nowhere near a 200 pound anvil.
FoxFire
I don't think it's a Peter. The base isn't right, I don't see a handling hole in the foot, and the Pritchel hole is too close to the edge of the heel (unless the heel has bee shortened). I had him weigh it and turns out it's 150 pounds.
ThomasPowers
Possible Boker Trenton? What does it look like on the bottom?
JeepinJoe
Here is picture of the bottom. I cannot find any markings. I picked it up for $300. I checked rebound with a ball pean and the rebound on my 80 pound Acme anvil is much better. Don't have a ball bearing which would work better. Daswulf
I'd be a buyer at $300. nice score.
Nobody Special
Try rubbing flour or baby powder on the sides with it tilted a little. Sometimes brings out faint marks that are next to impossible to see. On some I hit it with a non-knotted wire brush first.
ThomasPowers
Either way a good brand and in decent shape; if it passes the ball bearing test it's a winner!
SReynolds
The jack idea is nice. It's adjustable thata way! I like a higher anvil face for forging but set the guillotine fuller on that I almost need a step stool.
