No hardy holes on the sides or bottoms of anvils those are almost certainly handling holes though they may be something a company in Mexico, China, or(?) incorporates to imitate a forged anvil in a cheap cast iron piece of junk. It has a 1/2 inch round hole in the top (smaller end) and an inche square hole on the bottom end so the opening is all the way through. But it looks like if you smoothed out the face a little it would be great for smaller work and for punching holes. Still in my opinion a great purchase. Because I'm wondering it it would be possible to make some type of holder so I can use the hole on top for a pritchel hole then flip it over and use the hole on bottom when I need to use a tool requiring a hardy hole.
