Wayne
Saw this, I wonder how long it took to come up with this idea?
stan
Nice its like an expanded version of a Fredrick's split cross.
bigfootnampa
Basically a variant on the expanded metal theme! interesting! Slightly larger and it would make a cool trivet! Another step up in scale and it could be a unique fire grate! LOTS of possibilities!
ThomasPowers
Hard to clean as a fire grate; same problem with using it as a coffee table base with a glass top; but it sure would be pretty. Ventilator grate?
Frosty
That's a cool form technique, expanded metal 3D. I think it might make for an interesting fire place grate and you could sell the special fire tools to go with. I'd be interested in the thinking that lead to it and when, I doubt it's a recent idea. What do I know though. Now it has me wondering how to apply the technique with lathe cuts. Hmmmmmm. Frosty The Lucky.
ausfire
Fascinating! Precision cuts there.
Joel OF
I love modern concepts like that, though aesthetically I prefer how it looks in pics 5/6 than how it ends up.
John McPherson
I thought that I recognized the style, and I did. This piece is from 2010. Check out more of Mr. Janos Gabor Varga's work at Blind Spot Jewelry and his flickr site. He has some great iron rings from tube & T stock. Proof that you can do more with modern metals than RR spike KSO's.
SpankySmith
For some reason I can't see the original photo (grrrr.) but if the above is an example I know there's a Pinterest tutorial about how to make it. I think it's called a iron snowflake or some such thing? I have it bookmarked but don't have access to Pinterest right now to link it.
