I good friend of mine, dave, gave my this tool along with some much needed parts for the steamer. it looks like an od type of vice grip maybe. if anyone can shed some light on this that would be great!

P.S. you are invited to come to vegreville alberta this Saturday to the fair. we will have our steam engine their along with a couple others, I will also be playing fiddle for the weekend.

Forks on the ends? Hard to see in that pict. If so my 1st thought is some sort of vale spring compressor.

What you have is a small engine valve spring compressor. A common tool in the lawnmower business.

I think I've seen a similar tool to do with car wheels maybe a ball joint separater?
