June 25, 201412 yr I was amusing myself visualizing PA Dutch catching crocs; perhaps global warming will bring a new revenue stream to the area... I think Zucchini roaster would be more likely (*why* do they ever put more than *4* seeds in a package of Zucchini seeds!)

June 25, 201412 yr Author It doesn't seem we're agreeing just yet, so I want to dig some more. -Are the two other objects just like the one in the picture? Do they look like the same smith made them, and if not, are the spikes as crude and blunt as in this one? I haven't seen the other two, the owner brought this device to a tool collectors meeting where I took the photos. He said the other two were very similar but since they were hand made they were not the exact same.

June 28, 201411 yr I think it is for feeding sheaves of fodder to stock. it needs to be well gripped and solid so they can tear mouthful's off. The hook underneath the jaws could be used to hinge it up and out the way. cattle or weaner calves?
