  1. Templehound, I look forward to seeing each one of your pieces of art. Everyone of them are beautiful pieces of craftsmanship and totally functional as a real tool that is designed to be used for the intended purpose that it was designed for
  2. PB’s not joking about the people around here not knowing how to drive on icy roads, I live about 60 miles north of him and they closed all schools in our area today due to the possibility of ice on the road. You should see what happens when it rains, all major roads are shut down because of wrecks, and everyone in Louisiana should know how to drive in the rain.
  3. In the area I live in they can only have meat in the counter for "x amount of days" but they can transform it into something else, at the end of that time, and place it back for another "x amount of days" such as rotisserie chickens, stew meat, ground meat or cook it in their deli
  4. Understood, I’m willing to work one on one with someone to ensure that they follow proper procedures, when they may be exposed to an explosive atmosphere to ensure their safety, but I won’t publish it because I’ve found that a lot of people have trouble reading directions and then following them properly
  5. I had a special request today , for a vegetable soup, from my wife because she is coming down with a cold. Yes, i I did do this in my shop, because I have a stove in my shop that I cook meals for the family. I cooked a 12qt. pot so we can share with friends and family. Most of the vegetables came from my, and my neighbors, garden.
  6. Looking good John, you’re going to learn that the torch is a valuable tool in your tool box
  7. My 230# Soderfors anvil I bought in November came from a man that was told to clean up all the scrap that had been sitting outside the RR shop for a few years, his supervisor told him he could have anything he wanted, just as long as he got rid of everything. Sometimes you’re just in the right place at the right time.
  8. Twisted, No offense, but I will not give advice out on a World Wide Web site on how to do this, there is a lot of information on how to do it on the “web”, and on this site that you can research and make your decision on how to proceed. I have worked in the natural gas industry for 37 yrs. as a welder working on live gas lines daily, and use my training at my own expense, along with the proper tools to ensure that I’m not working on an explosive atmosphere to keep me safe. Can it be performed safely, yes, but only when proper procedures are followed. You can PM me with questions and I will provide you with some advice
  9. Das, I’ve made several from the ends of propane tanks. Anyone wanting to do that has to know how to properly clean them first to ensure that they don’t explode! I also have the equipment to check them with a combustible gas indicator, before any cutting, to ensure that it’s safe before proceeding
  10. Dax, that’s a very nice fire pit/bbq and the food looks great. I wish I was there to try some.
  11. Beautiful work everyone! As others have stated, thanks to all on this site for the help you give us on learning this craft and the great ideas for projects.
  12. Great sweater John, my youngest daughter knits sweaters and other items like that, that I’m always amazed at the quality and ability to do that.
  13. I think the largest circle I used it for was when I built the big flame on top of the 250’ structure at LSU for the Special Olympics back in the late 80’s, I can’t remember the exact dates, but it had a 20’ diameter.
  14. John, I think you receive more deliveries than my wife, but yours are more interesting to me than hers are. I bought one of those beam compasses, about 40 yrs. ago, that I still use all the time. I always laugh when I pull it out for one of the newer employees to use and they have no idea what to do with it
  15. T, I don’t know where you live or what the anvil weighs, (you can put one that size on a bathroom scale to find out) but looking at it in my area I wouldn’t give more than $2-2.50 a pound for it
  16. I still have a P O box, they just put a card in your box to pick up a package at the counter that doesn’t fit in the box, but I would love to see their faces when an anvil arrived and I requested my package
  17. Looks like I was posting at the same time as Twisted, I couldn’t see the pictures at the time I posted, so if they were there I apologize because all I could see at that time was “ I have a Trenton”. I can’t give any information on the date, but you have a nice anvil, with some edge damage, but it is still a good anvil as long as it still has a good rebound.
  18. You have a Trenton anvil. That’s all you gave us, so that’s all we can give you! If you read some of the posts and see that pictures and other information helps us, then we can help you
  19. Das, I used 3” of some 3/8 x 1 flat bar I had in the shop for them.
  20. Made a couple of bottle openers yesterday, I’m still working on the process and have some refinement to do on them, but I’m going in the right direction
